If Pels choke in the play-in, we may get rid of Willie (wishful thinking?)!

He should be gone for making the play in.

Irrelevant

Zion plays 70 games, and we're in the play in with a real chance to miss the playoffs.

Even if we get in, we have very little chance to win a playoff series.

Healthy Zion, play in and 1st round exit is a complete disaster any way you look at it.

Lol that was last year. We were never the 1 seed this year.

Can’t really argue with this. Only with the caveat that we didn’t have a healthy AND in shape Zion for all that long. But I’m not sure that will ever necessarily change.

True

If I can go super Pels pessimist for a second, I'm almost worried that the post All Star break version of Zion we all loved is kind of a bad thing....meaning...

If that is peak Zion, it's just nowhere near good enough to be a true #1 on a team. He's awesome, and yet still so far away from the top 8 dudes, that I don't see how he can ever get there.

But yes, overall I was obviously happy Zion got in shape, started playing defense, and got super aggressive(minus the last game for some reason lol)

I don't think it's peak Zion. I think he'll continue to get better and better. Just look at his pull ups and defense the last month. He gets 20 percent better at both of those and he's right there with the top 8 minus maybe Jokic and Luka.

Maybe. I don’t know. Hes played 2 healthy seasons in 5 years. I hope this year is the norm but right now its an outlier.

Certainly possible

Problem is, he is 0 for 5 at showing up to his 1st game of the season in tip top shape and ready for the season. 0 for 4 if we take out the season he missed entirely.

So then, why would anyone have any level of confidence that he is showing up next season for Game #1 in the shape he's in right now? I think the odds of that are very small. Please Zion prove me wrong, he's just given me 5 years of data to think it would be stupid for me to assume or think it'll happen.

I'll show some small level of optimism which is unusual for me.

I honestly think Zion has learned some lessons, that he has grown up, and that he will, barring injury, be in good shape (for him) to start next season.

Thats the part that frustrates me. He is clearly more in shape and has some periods where he is actually dominant on the defensive end. But even now, when he’s gotten in shape, he has lapses (way too often) where he just loses focus and falls asleep on defense. While he had six steals against GS two games ago, he gave up about that many layups in the first few minutes of the third quarter in that game just by being mentally lazy. If he ever puts it together . . . But will that ever happen? This team needs him to be a superstar if we’re to be more than just a second round at best type team.
