I think you could have done better.

But yes, they deserve it. Team was looking like the 3rd or 4th best team in the west before Boogie went down. Can't fault them for our franchises miserable misfortune.

That's where they were headed before the injury. They looked to be a playoff lock ready to jump from the 6-9 tier to the 3-6 tier.

If Loomis isn't ready to fire them now he should tell them they've earned another year so that any trades they make aren't about saving this season.

Demps needs to go. Gentry can stand in, until the new GM tabs his guy. Then I'd like to see Gentry move to the FO in some capacity..

Dell has been using that excuse for 5 years now. It is getting old. The reason we had misfortune this year is because the team has no depth. Boogie's injury was a direct result of playing too many minutes at too fast of a pace. He played so much because we have no depth and no backup C capable of getting minutes in Gentry's system despite $15M spent on that position.

A lot depends on Cousins as to whether Gentry and Dell get yet another year.

I think they have to prove themselves at the deadline.

Exactly, leaving the SKC on Friday, my first thought was; well now they have to decide whether Demps and Gentry are staying and tell them before the trade deadline. Last thing we need is demps using the last of our bullets not knowing whether he is trying to save his job or not.

Look, it sucks Boogie is out. But keeping AG/DD is a slow suicide.

Playoffs or bust. This year. If they were worth keeping, they could still make it work losing one player. As it stands, AD and Boogie would probably have netted the 6/7/8 spot. That's still unacceptable. Monty got the 8th seed and was still fired for it.

The team needs a real GM. Dell isn't it.

In a way, you can. At least for Demps. You have about $57.4 Million tied up in big men (not even including Cunningham because he has played the 3 but you could also throw in his $2.3 mil in there) and we still have no depth there. The lack of depth led to more playing time. The more playing time at least somewhat contributed to the injury. Demps could've made it more of a point to dump Ajinca for someone more useful before this point. I know it's easier said than done, but it is Demps' fault we had that much tied up in useless big men in the first place anyway. So, however you spin it, Demps is somewhat responsible.

But I don't see how bringing in a new GM that will want to go in his own direction and start over again (with ownership still hampering him the way they do) will be any better. So, we might as well keep Demps and have him do what he does best: make small trades/signings that give us diamonds in the rough at the end of the bench. That's assuming Ownership is still dead set on resigning Cousins. If they are considering not resigning him, maybe it would be time to look for a new GM. But that also destabilizes the AD situation.

As for Gentry, I'll give credit where credit is due. He may not be the best coach, but he has done a decent job this year. Much better than people give credit for. Sure, he can make some dumb in game decisions. I'm not saying he's a great coach. But he's at least proven he can have some success if he's given some time and talent. This team was beginning to reach our expectations (and exceed most of the national media's expectations). So, I wouldn't hate having him back if we're staying the course with this team.

Everyone knows I'm all for moving on from both, but unfortunately they will both get another year.

The Pelicans offense looked great in the first half against the Clippers on Sunday, moving the ball around the whole half. That was encouraging in our post-Boogie world. (Truthfully, before the boogie injury we were 2nd in assists/game but we just looked better in first half moving the ball). It fell apart when shots stopped going down in second half, but part of it was that Gentry didn't adjust well to changes LA made so the shots weren't optimal, and that's the crux of an argument argument against Gentry, he's not a good "in game" coach. Next year should be his put up or shut up year, the same it would be had cousins not been injured.

Demps should be treated differently because he's been here longer and has had more time to make this "his" team, and it just doesn't have any depth. BUT the Saints languished for a few years with people calling for Loomis's head, so Loomis may remember this and give Demps a longer leash and make next year his determinative year, the same as Gentry.

If next year doesn't work out then Demps and Gentry will be both gone and the new GM can pick his coach. Or we just hire Cal.

I agree, but the optics of firing another coach after making the playoffs is really bad. I'm not saying keeping them is a good decision, just hard to justify firing another coach after making the playoffs again.
