And because they are the Lakers they will somehow get an elite C through the buyout market or the Pacers will just donate them Myles Turner
A lot of speculation is this thread. This, sadly, is pretty much an indisputable fact.

The mavs traded for "glass man" dude is the biggest bitch. I hope AD enjoyed f ing over new orleans and then get fd over before lebron. Hope it was worth it AD? Everyone knew you were an idiot. All that noise to get a bubble championship.bahaha

FFS, having their next big superstar means that LeBron’s grip around the organization’s nuts loosens IMHO. LeBron may still have a no trade clause but having a guy who is an MVP level talent on the roster who isn’t a Klutch guy means that LeBron and Rich Paul’s influence declines a bit.
They're in rebuilding mode now and are about to have to commit to a huge Luka deal that it going to put them into luxury tax/2nd apron territory if they acquire another star vet. The Lakers are cash poor and nobody in the NBA wants to deal with the 2nd apron.

I know you love to take whatever the counter opinion is but Dallas committed malpractice.
They didn’t call anyone but MIL and LAL.
No one.
The leagues GMs are all texting the insiders saying they had no clue and if Luka was put on the block they would have offered anything and everything. The bidding war would have been legendary.
This is egregious.

I'm happy !!!...ANYTHING...that pisses off LeBron...makes me happy... and this trade is amazingly bad for LeBron.
I could see LeBron saying..."I'm taking my talents to....??? (fill in the blank)

I thought that at first and then read more about their motivations. Luka is similar to Zion in that he hasn’t taken his conditioning seriously. Constantly overweight and that has led to constant injuries. Luka is due a $345 million max this summer. Mavs were facing the possibility of giving a max to a player who doesn’t take his professional obligations seriously and this leads to being an injury risk.
Plus, he’s so ball-centric that it’s debatable if a championship team can be built around him.
Short term: this is great for Laker haters. Losing AD leaves a huge defensive liability at C for them. LeBron cannot carry a team night in/out like he could when he was younger. Luka will come back and get hurt soon. Lakers will finish this season w a compromised LeBron, Luka in street clothes, and Haxson Hayes trying to play D.

Why does Dallas do this? Did the league guarantee them a #1 overall pick in the “lottery”?

They said that the Mavs GM and Lakers GM have a strong r ship. I think you have a good point but if they leak that they are seeking to trade Luka, it could have gotten ugly with the criticism. Luka would be disgruntled and demanding.
Instead of all that stress, if your happy with return from Lakers, just get it done.

I think the Mavs just did...what the Pels shoulda done...a coupla years ago. They do NOT think as highly of Doncic as most everybody else does.
I agree with the Mavs...Luka is entertaining...but that's about it. The baggage that Luka brings to the Mavs is obviously NOT something the Mavs wanted to deal with for the next several years. As a wise man once said, "NIP IT...NIP IT IN THE BUD !!!"

To get that value, they'd have to start rebuilding.
That choice had a cost, for sure, which tilts the trade in the Lakers' favor.
Many scenarios from this point involve this DAL team going further in the playoffs than where Luka can get the Lakers. People are pretending like these scenarios are closer to 90/10 or worse, when it's probably 60/40.

When? They own 25 and 26, which don't look to be likely to be lotto picks capable of that. They don't have another 1st rounder until 2030, which is a swap with SAS. Their next "clean" 1st rounder is 2031

That’s what I don’t understand. Why make the trade? Theoretically 2026 could be a lotto pick. frick, just doesn’t make sense and I’d be furious if I was a Mavs fan.

Ok, I don’t agree but if that statement is true, why wouldn’t you cast a wide net and get as many assets as possible? You call two teams?

Why make the trade?
They think they have a really good roster and want to win now and don't want to pay him the super max and basically end their title hopes (due to the 2nd apron).
That decision (win now) has a cost, which means they did not get full value today, for sure. I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise.

If AD has a serious injury or something. Kyrie/Klay/AD are making the playoffs.
Like I said earlier

They think they can win now. It's that simple.

They specifically targeted AD and Giannis. There was a cost to this, but that's who they were targeting. Big 4s who play great D and can also play offense.

Kyrie could opt out this off season. Just a head scratcher

AD wanted a center to play with, so instead of trading for one, they traded him. On paper, mavs look good for the remainder of the year.
Just wish it was to another city/team.
