Fletcher keeps mentioning ferry, tells me he has no sources

consider this...
gayle's quotes the other day repeatedly referenced the fact they are looking to fill one new position...GM. but she's also said recently that there will be a position in charge of the pelicans outside of loomis/lauscha that will report directly to her.

i predict that danny ferry will be the HNIC for the pelicans and that one of the others (langdon, rosas, et al) will be hired as GM under ferry

I think Ferry/Landon would be a good combo. Ferry has proven to be good overall, but he's got about as much of a draft record as Demps. With Langdon's background in scouting and the Duke connection it seems like a pretty good match. I would share Fun Bunch's overall concern about how much would actually change if Ferry stays, but if he wasn't an incumbent, I'd be pretty happy with Ferry/Langdon.

re ferry i'm just kind of reading between the lines. i dont think you convince him to stay (if he's the guy you want) "just as the GM" unless the GM in the pels' case is really only one one degree removed from gayle.

if there's any (even indirect) reporting there to loomis or lauscha i think he would say no thanks, and i think i'd agree that its a bad idea and more of the same that got dell so crossed up

so...if it really is a president/GM position, and its one person, than i think:

-ferry is the first choice
-langdon is too big a risk due to lack of experience
-rosas is second choice
-a guy like griffin or zarren is a pipe dream considering the state of the team at the moment (no star, no high lottery pick)

things could change (they could wait till after the lottery) but its april now...six weeks is a long time to interview

More important than who the person in that one chair is how big of a budget does Gayle give to that man to fill out his office, his scouting department, his G League GM spot, the assistants in that G League, etc.

The best teams don't just have one genius up top running it all and making every great decision. They have a large crew of smart people with different perspectives and strengths all contributing. THAT will be more important than who the one guy we all praise or blame is.

This all day. Cleaning house at the top, but not providing the new hire the resources to make needed structural improvements would be a colossal waste of time
