I know what you're trying to say. I think Monty is a good coach. Landry is right about this team having a lot of scorers but the coach being defensive minded. It's counterintuitive. But we also have good defenders in Holiday, Davis, Gordon and Evans (sometimes), and now Ajinca. I think this team can play sound balanced basketball and win on firepower and/or shutdown defense.

I do agree that us running and gunning would be a lot of fun and probably relatively effective, but that would require considerably more coaching ability and know-how than we currently have
This is 100% the main problem. All I need to point to is the fact that Morrow, a great three point shooter, wasn't in the game on the last possession, down by 3. That alone should be enough to get Monty fired.
And again, not only would that be fun to watch, it's the best fit for this roster, and the best chance this team has to win games. If they had Asik, Howard, or Hibbert, then that's a different story, but they don't.

the Spurs haven't had a good defense in a while

I just come to expect that from Monty at this point in time

I was really pleased with Anjica. He used his body a lot better than I expected considering his soft reputation. I don't know how he'll do starting, but I think he'll be great off the bench where he'll either be going up against guys much smaller or much slower than him.

I find defense highly entertaining too
You really have a hard time understanding things don't you? I never said defense wasn't entertaining. Pacers are probably my favorite team to watch this year. I'm just talking about how this specific team is built. They aren't built for defense. As has been pointed out, they have no real center.
But the main point that has come up is that Monty just isn't the right coach for the this roster.

So they were just always screwed by the refs? All the time? ok man.
Laugh all you want. Dallas/Miami 06, and Kings/Lakers 02, are two of the most talked about officiating disasters in the history of sports. And the Suns were screwed against the Spurs that one year when some of their guys, including Amare, got suspended when Horry started that fight. That was the Suns' year. They were the best team.

Lol I get your point man. Just because I disagree with your idea doesn't mean I don't understand it. The only thing I'm disagreeing with is what would be best for this team.

You think our best chance at winning includes Morrow in the starting lineup.
You're done.
Because Aminu's defense has made all the difference in the world right? I guess you all like watching Aminu brick jumpers and not pass the ball to Davis for wide open dunks and layups. That's much better than spreading the floor with one of the best shooters in basketball. Also, pretty sure Morrow was in the game and hit some big shots when this team came back down the stretch tonight.

I just read this entire thread... didn't get to watch tonight, but was curious also how Ajinca would fit. Did the ball ever go through him on offense? Does he move well without the ball? Or did he camp out and wait for glass?

He made a couple great passes and did have a play where Holiday gave him the ball up top, someone else set a screen, Holiday got the ball back and he rolled to the hoop where Holiday lobbed it to him and he scored. Was a pretty good looking play.

Isn't it sad it's come to expecting those things.
Also, it's pretty well known that the Spurs completely changed their style over the last four or five years. They have become more of an offensive juggernaut, and about middle of the pack defensively.

He seemed very mobile...for his size. Like I said, in a bench role he'll do very well because he'll be so much bigger than the quick guys and so much quicker than the big guys. He also brought good energy. From everything I've read getting bounced out of the league has humbled him and he's pretty hungry for redemption.

So is he here to stay? Yes or no? I've seen a bunch of good comments, but nothing definitive.
Obviously after 1 game its tough, just gauging the fan reactions.

According to French center Alexis Ajinca’s agent, the big fella has reached a two-year agreement with the Pelicans. Per the Times-Picayune:
The New Orleans Pelicans have reached a two-year contract agreement with 7-foot-2 French center Alexis Ajinca, and he will join the team in Portland before Saturday’s game, his agent Mark Bartelstein said by telephone Thursday night.
Ajinca was able to work out a buyout agreement with his Euro League team, Strasbourg. before agreeing to the Pelicans’ deal. He was the 20th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats, who eventually traded him to the Dallas Mavericks before the 2010-11 season. He played only a half season with the Mavericks before he was traded to the Toronto Raptors.
“He’s excited to join the Pelicans,” Bartelstein said.
The Pelicans are desperate for more depth at center. Jason Smith is their starting center, but he’s a natural power forward. Backup center Greg Stiemsma has been out since mid-November with a sprained left knee.

Yes. Definitely.

From what I saw tonight I'd defintely play him before Amundson, and Withey. He'd be ahead of Stiemsma too unless the match up called for a more physical big.

He is young also! Will grow with the team and hopefully be protection for AD
