This situation is going to get uglier. We are in for a whirlwind this off-season.

This take brought to you by the guy who said Kira or Dyson could be CJ’s replacement.

CJ McCollum is everything you want in a player on your team. For his efforts and leadership, I cannot fault him one bit on his stance. His injury may excuse him from his shot ability this past season, but not from his poor decision making on countless occasions.
I’m giving this team one more year to get their shite together. After that, we have no hope because we all know this group is special when healthy physically and mentally.

Strong April entry for dumbest post of the year.

He’s masterfully creating a “prove it Zion!” energy. CJ’s challenging Zion to do everything he possibly can to maintain and strengthen his body to give himself the best chance of a healthy season.

Zion is the huge “what if”
But if I did, I would have moved the quotes on your line to: Zion is the "huge" what if
But like I said, I would never do that, and F you to the guy who would make that joke!!

Right. CJ can have a kind of impact that the coaching staff and front office cannot. He and BI are the only ones in the team with the stature to do this kind of accountability, and it's not BI's personality.

Hopefully sitting at home watching everyone else play is enough of a wake up call to get these guys to actually listen to him this offseason.

He also played as a 1st or 2nd option all year when thats not what we brought him here to do
Y’all over exaggerate this way too much. He was a first or second option his entire career in Portland. Was the 2nd option on a team that went to the WCF one year.
I keep seeing this excuse but it’s not like he’s a fish out of water being forced into that role some games. He’s been in that role his entire career.

quote:Point is we know the ceiling on that role, and he absolutely was brought here to be our 3rd best player/3rd option, so I'm not sure why it's an exaggeration.

If the guy you brought in to be a 3rd option spends over half his games as your 1st or 2nd option when he had a decade as a 2nd option on a team that couldn't get over the hump...that's not ideal.

CJ's productivity (stats) were good, maybe even great considering the injury, but to me he was a disappointment in the role of "lead guard". Maybe this is how things ran with him in Portland too, but the offense just didn't seem work as well with CJ playing on ball rather than off ball.

CJ wasn't perfect, but the issue was with so many games without BI and Zion, CJ was legit the only dude on our entire roster who can be a playmaker from the perimeter, so he was forced into doing it too much.
People loved to say that he ALWAYS shoots too much and doesn't defer, and I pointed out all season long just how much his shots per game and usage rate was higher when he was by himself, lower when he was with 1 of BI/ZIon and even lower when he was with both of them...so he was playing the roles seemingly about as well as he should from a usage standpoint. He knew his role.
