This. And they also drafted risky, or at least what the "experts" thought was risky.

Durant and Harden were good picks from the start.

People blasted the westbrook pick and considering Ibaka was drafted 28th (or maybe 26th?) No one knew he was going to have that kind of impact from the get go.

OKC had 3 amazing drafts, but it's not like they were lucky enough to draft can't miss prospects every time. They took risks and it panned out. That usually doesn't happen.

How many guys in the Top 10 of this year's draft will be an all-star at 23?

With this crop of guys? McLemore and maybe Oladipo or KCP.

I see the top tier of guards in the league (Bryant, Wade, Parker, etc.) going down in the next few years, give or take CP3 if his knee blows up.

I see Curry, Harden, and Westbrook being the top in the West, giving McLemore a shot at making it as a reserve, while I see Kyrie and possibly Deron Williams being the tops in the East and giving guys like Oladipo a shot at making it.

sooo the NBA draft is a crap shoot? got it.

I would say if the Pels increase by let's say 10 wins or so, that pick is going to be total garbage anyway

Who were we going to get in 2014 Cedric Simmons or Julian Wright?

You're forgetting about D Rose and John Wall.

Forgetting about EG (Hopefully), Lillard, maybe CP3 (depending on durability)

quite possibly, but even assuming they're all AS by 23, are we assuming that we deal gordon for peanuts, too?

all 4 of those guys are 2s

True.

The only caveat there is that no one knows how Rose will return from his knee injury, given the extended period between being cleared for practice and him actually making it onto the court.

I err on Rose's side given the Bulls' trainers' history of risking long-term injuries for their guys by telling them to "walk it off", but you have to wonder WTF is going on with him.

exactly. again, we actually got a player who IS an All-Star. Anything about the drafted guys is hope, speculation, and promise. No idea if they will deliver or not...

That being said, I would have been just fine with McLemore but I like what the Pels did here....they finally addressed the hole left when CP3 departed town and I like that

I think the PG position is crucial to having any type of contender in the NBA if your team doesn't have Kobe or LeBron

Oh yea I think Rose is a fricking pussy and it wouldn't shock me in the least if it takes him a year or so before he gets back to where he should be, but you certainly can't count him out yet.

Because everyone is ignoring the fact that it isn't a straight up trade: 2013 pick for Holiday. It's 2 first rounders. I'm glad Jrue is coming here, but I don't like it at the expense of two first rounders. If we get to keep the pick at the end of the day, then good on us. I just don't like the risk associated with this deal.
That's the point. We overpaid. That is the disappointing part. Straight up for 6, along with a bench player would have been fine. The Sixers sold Jrue at high value after somewhat of a stat stuffer season. He had good stats on a bad team. His TO ratio is very concerning and he was an all-star only because Rose was hurt. I think he is a very good PG, but would not have given up potentially 2 lottery picks for him. He reminds me more of a bigger version of Darren Collison.

We didn't give up any lottery picks. (Lottery being the top 3).

We gave a 6th in a TERRIBLE draft and a 6 at the absolute worst for an all star point guard who is 23.

People are getting irrational with value of draft picks.

If we are good next year and make the playoffs, the pick we sent to the 76ers is worthless. We have no idea how Nerlens Noel will pan out to be. Pelicans got a great deal no matter what and 76ers could go either way.

Exactly. OKC's front office has done a very good job, but they also were very fortunate in how the draft worked out.

The vast majority do not agree with you at all.

Just this one guy, who no one knows who he is. Rohan is not an "expert".

Think of it this way. Holiday WAS our draft pick. Sure we're paying veteran salary, but it's pretty reasonable AND we're getting a guy who helps immensely immediately.

Yeah, that trading the pick idea sure turned out to be a good one. That Demps is surely a smart guy.

Chris Broussard on SC just said the Pelicans were the overall winners of the whole draft. Hopefully Jrue can really shine in NOLA.
