Hearing it from the media hurts doesn't it? Embarrassing.

Serious question. Is there a franchise in all of of team sports that's more of a laughing stock than the Pelicans are right now? The Lions maybe?

We've never been more of a joke.

You can have endless justified criticisms of Griff but I have no idea how she found mismanaging Zion's injuries. Glad local media stopped carrying water for him on his health but I doubt anyone in the national media will. Fact is with Zion playing we are slightly below 500 and due in part because of Zion himself it hasn't happened.

Lmao that was just the usual talking points regurgitated. Oh and from at Atlanta sports fan at that.

“As soon as they won the lottery we knew they would screw it up.”
“They’ve mismanaged Zions injury”

Totally agree with the bullshite about Gentry and fighting and that nonsense. If it gets him fired so be it.

But the rest was just nonsense.

I do agree but it also doesn’t matter.

Worth noting(because ESPN won’t), she is represented by CAA, Zion’s agency.

And ESPN is often joked by people like Kevin O’Connor as CAA’s mouthpiece.

Doesn’t invalidate what she says, but it should raise questions about what underlying machinations are potentially taking place, such as this being Zion’s people intentionally pushing to get Griff out(which I’m good with).

Doubt it's that deep especially from Debatable. That the rest of that David Griffin segment turned into jokes about Pablo's jeans emphasizes it's not exactly hard hitting journalism.

Don't mind her bashing Griffin, as he deserves it. However, her comments are a bit disingenuous. She did not "know" anything and is simply basing her frustration on Griffin firing Gentry.

It doesn’t have to be some sort of nefarious or complex plot.

CAA personality has “sources” that happen to be people in her agency’s orbit and have a vested interest in certain narratives or outcomes because those “sources” are probably Zion tied people within her agency.

Happens all the time at ESPN

From a past thread I posted it in:

quote:

For example, Creative Arts Agency (CAA) happens to represent key media personalities at ESPN NBA, which was by design, and accomplished with the subtlety and tact of the Red Wedding. When you combine that nugget with knowledge of CAA’s influence over the New York Knicks (GM Leon Rose is a former CAA superagent, coach Tom Thibodeau is a CAA client), ESPN’s reports of Zion Williamson (CAA client) having an interest in joining the Knicks gets put in a different light. The way it’s presented to the consumer is the mere reporting on a rising star in New Orleans wanting to play in New York. You’re not supposed to know that ESPN wants this to happen because ESPN is CAA and CAA is ESPN, which means that CAA is the Knicks, meaning that the Knicks are ESPN. You’re not supposed to know that this factors heavily into why New Orleans is shite out of luck, gumbo and jazz music be damned. In many ways, the agencies run the NBA. The media that they use to execute their messaging is making the principals seem peripheral. So often, the story of a trade or free agency signing is told absent mention of its true author.

Again, all by design. You are not meant to know when a reporter and player he’s reporting on work for the same agency, even when and especially if it’s completely obvious that the two are on the same team, working together. I’ve already argued that the sneaker brand is the main employer for a few players at the top of the heap. I could make the same argument with superstar reporters and their agencies. And if that’s the case, then perhaps the public is not getting the right frame when information is presented. "

I have no doubt that CAA wants Griffin gone like the rest of us and Zion is important enough to them that they will do what they can to influence the process of removing and replacing him.

That being said, I believe Uncle Al was the source of her going off. What she said sounded like someone sticking up for a friend.

Exactly why I don’t give in to all the bashing. None of it is genuine. They don’t want Zion here. They don’t even want a team here. Sure some of it is true but frick them. It’s the same broad strokes about the market over and over again. They don’t give a shite about Nola.

Maybe, but it doesn’t have to be either/or.

It would actually shock me if she didn’t make a call or two to people in her agency, people she probably talks to regularly, to get some more insight or fodder for her segment

IMO it's as simple as we totally suck and are an easy target to pile on to and some will and some won't. The over the air shows have either not discussed or been fairly soft on us. Wilbon just said he feels for Griff when talking about the Pels. Windhorst was almost praising Willie Green when talking about us earlier today.

Explains why she didn't give any blame whatsoever to Zion for his injury/maintenance and instead passed it ALL on to the organization.

A bit hypocritical of ESPN to say they knew Griff was going to mess this up. Literally every personality at ESPN was heaping praise on the Griffin hire at the time. shite, up until last offseason most of espn was still saying they believed Griff would figure it out.

I feel like ESPN is partly responsible for how long his leash ultimately was. Even I bought into the Griff hype after he was hired. I think the combination of getting all the 1sts from the AD trade, winning the lottery, Griff-speak and the media hype pulled the wool over a lot of our eyes. In the end, he’s just a pretentious douchebag who thinks he knows more than everyone. Like Sean Payton, but without any of the positive qualities

I wouldn't say she goes off, she blames Griff for Zion's inability to stay healthy or in shape, which by the way is not Griff's fault

Like it was our fault that he can't keep his weight under control. The team doctors took their time bringing him back. It wasn't like we rushed him back. What the hell is she talking about "missmanaging his injury"???

But that's the problem... we shouldn't be slightly below .500 with a healthy Zion in his third season.

Like we already know how this works with CP3 and AD. The clock starts ticking literally the second David Stern or Adam Silver calls their name to build a contender around them. The scary part is that we actually had a contender with CP3, had one with AD if Boogie's achilles doesn't explode.

With Zion, the roster has progressively gotten worse with each of his three seasons.
