This guy played a major part in the renovations as well as attracting major events in New Orleans. Perhaps he sees the writing on the wall but it leaves a large void now.

Doug Thornton has occupied the large office on the plaza level of the southwest side of the Superdome since 1997. From this room filled with memorabilia from his 29-year tenure as a stadium manager, Thornton has overseen operations at one of the world’s most iconic buildings and hosted power brokers from across the sports and political landscape. It’s also where he rode out Hurricane Katrina and fearlessly managed the fallout from one of the greatest crises in U.S. history. In a few weeks, though, Thornton will pack his belongings and vacate the office for good, leaving behind a rich legacy and creating a major void in the New Orleans sports scene

Good editorial
Editorial: Thanks to Doug Thornton, the Superdome exec who brought the icon back after Katrina

Saints fans should particularly thank Thornton for his key role in securing the team’s lease extension with the Superdome in 2001. The negotiations were highly contentious, with owner Tom Benson threatening to sell the team or move it to Mississippi, but Thornton got it done.
