Doc Rivers fired from Clippers. by Tank77
LINK pels already interested

Damn lol. Guess my sense of Griff was wrong.

That’s perhaps the first time we have immediately jumped into the fray on a coaching prospect.

The Lue and Kidd stuff always seemed to be more agent side and pundit speculation. This reads like a true leak indicating strong organization interest.

Honestly I am shocked. Really didn’t think Griffin would go the direction of a veteran that has been known to desire a strong voice in front office decision making. I’d actually say given the similarities between LA and PHI wanting immediate results and the coach as the fall guy, we probably have a strong edge if we want him.

Come on now. I’m not a big fan of Rivers but he would at the very least make this a good team.

Not saying he’s some savant, but out of those prospects Woj named, I’d take Rivers.

Really shocked at all the sudden JVG noise.

Seems like the sort of aged curmudgeon stuck in his ways that has been an issue for so many teams.

JVG must have made a lot of friends inside that bubble the last few months

It’s gotta be something. Last time I really remember his name going around was when he injected himself into the post-Monty coaching search.

A few casual mentions of interviews here and there, but guy must be gunning for a ready made contender and really worked that networking side in the bubble lol.

Look I’m not a huge fan of Doc but he’s a good coach and our young players would buy in instantly. He’s not a great coach. But he would definitely get young players going.

Not happening though.

JJ speaks pretty highly of Doc. I still would rather swing for the fences with an up and coming assistant, but if Buy In is your goal, Doc might be the best of the retreads.

He left Boston to avoid a rebuild, I wonder if he'd even want to come here.

I don't know, we'll see how far talks go after Doc talks salary and organizational structure.

Our hope isn't for the very least, that's the point.

Also, unless Zion can't stay healthy, we may very well be a really good team no matter who is coaching, so it's not like Rivers should even get the credit for that if he came here and we became really good.

The issue with Rivers will be tenure. He ain’t getting fired for a long time. A combination of being highly respected, consistently fielding good enough teams, and having great relationships with players, media, and people off the court. It’s probably the biggest reason I’m not excited about him. I don’t think he’s the long term answer but he’ll get every opportunity to be a long term head coach.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I would also rather swing for the fences for the next Spo or Stevens, but if we are going retread, we could do much much worse than Doc. At least he can teach the young guys what it takes to be a professional and get them to buy in. He’d have instant respect the moment he walked in the door and, although I don’t think he can take us to the top, I think he’d leave the franchise in a better place than when he arrived.

Doc is the best of the retreads. The players would buy in because he has cache.

It’s not who I want by a long shot but we could do A LOT worse.

If culture is one of the biggest factor for a hire, I can see why Rivers would be at the top of that list.

While I very much would like a new young and upcoming guy to be our next head coach, not a retread, Doc is probably the only exception for a retread that I’d be very happy with.

My intuition pretty much sucks based on my speculation 5 minutes ago that Griffin wouldnt be interested in Doc for *list of reasons* but I could see it.

Could see him wanting to prove something and jump to Philly, could also see him say frick this nonsense, tired of these hyper win-now situations where I am on the cliff being ready to be pushed off by the FO if I don't get to the Finals year one, which feels like the Philly situation.

I just don't see how Griffin and Doc don't end up in a similar situation as Griff did with Gentry feeling Griffin is too micromanaging and hands-on...Of course could have just been Griff never trusted Gentry and over compensated.
