Not really. He's pretty garbage. The only reason anyone thinks he's any good is because SFP hasn't shut up about him the last 10 years.
If he wasn't the 2nd overall pick he'd be out of the leauge.
I did forget we moved Ayon so we could use him I guess. But Jason Smith would do a way better job than him

Still, I just want a big guy who can body up. He doesn't have to start but we need at least one center like that

I'd love a young Chris Webber on our team

So do I. I just think Darko is garbage. I'd rather someone with potential to get better like Mahinmi or Robin Lopez.

I think I speak for the majority of the board when I say, we couldn't give a flying frick as to how SFP factors into this or what he said.
The fact of the matter is that we need a legit 5 – he doesn't have to be a starter, mind you. We just need a big body with experience to come in and spell Davis (or Smith, or whoever is our starter) and if Milicic is amnestied, he is just as good, if not better, than anyone else available.

Yea I'd rather one of those two as well but if we cant get those then Darko is the next best option for us this year

I like him, but I think he is more of 4 than a 5.

Just because he plays the 5 doesn't make him a legit 5.
He had a PER of fricking 9 as a center last season and gave up a PER of 18

Looking at some synergy stats defensively...
He is equal with Chris Kaman allowing .81 PPP defensively. Against the post up however, he allowed .77 PP compared to the .90. He is vulnerable to pick and roll (1.08) but I doubt he'll be the guy guarding that when on the court. FWIW, Emeka allowed .9 PPP and .98 against the post-up last year. Omer Asik allowed .75 PPP against the post-up.
As a big body to throw out to guard the bigs... not a terrible option

i mean he won't be some long-term solution, but our options are kwame or darko right now. or ian mahini maybe

The difference is that Milicic is like an 8 year vet, meaning he has likely reached his potential, while Lopez is coming off a rookie deal and could actually get his head out of his arse.
I'd rather Milicic, too, as we'd know what we'd get out of him, but some people think they're the ones who can make the young guy develop just right.

do we realistically have a shot at signing lopez or mahini, though?

Robin slightly better defensively and Ian way worse.

Darko has averaged 19 mpg in his career and has posted the stat line on 6/4/1. He has been in the league 9 years and has shown minimal improvement.
Lopez has averaged 14mpg and has posted 6/3/1. He's been in the leauge 4 years and could improve if he actually got minutes.

Lopez definitely has more upside and I think AD23 could help erase some of his deficiencies on D.

Brand isn't a 5 either.
Darko at least can be a placeholder

I don't think you understand that we are not looking for a project guy to develop long term. We are looking for depth than can come in and shape this team for a year or two until we can get a good piece in FA/draft or mold Davis into our 5 of the future.

They don't get this...

I don't think you understand that Lopez is already better than Darko and actually has room to improve his game. If he gets better, great. If not, he's a stop gap.
