Could AD play the 3 spot in certain situations?

Assume for a minute you resign Cousins. Could You trot this lineup out to start or close out games and have AD effectively guard the 3’s of the league:

Holiday
Moore/Rondo
Davis
Mirotic
Cousins

For matchups versus the warriors, I would see it as
Moore/Rondo versus Curry
Holiday versus Thompson
AD versus KD
Mirotic versus Iguodala
Cousins versus Green/Looney

Does this work or do the switches still kill us?

You’d want AD on one of Iggy or Draymond so that he could sag off and protect the paint. His help defense in the paint, along with Jrue’s pestering defense on the perimeter, is what helped dominate in the Blazers series.

They’d switch Niko onto Curry and park KD in the corner so AD can’t protect the rim.

After watching Curry and KD just simply go supernova even when guys played perfect defense, I think I'm at the point where the best defense to me is just not letting them get an easy 2 points.

If that line up somehow deters layups and easy shots, than so be it.

No

Not against the elite teams.
Pelicans just need to resign everyone this offseason. A healthy Pelicans team is the 3rd best team in the nba. One more shooter and they can challenge for first.

However if somehow Cousins can be swapped for George then the gap gets smaller.

AD tends to be the most effective, overall, at the 5, according to most observers.

not necessarily the 5, but guarding someone who isn't a threat to hit from long range so AD can roam close to the rim to protect it is when he's the most effective.
