That all makes sense, but shite. I do not want Monta! I'd rather the draft pick.

However, there may be a circumstance in which the Warriors would take CP3 on a rental … if New Orleans takes Monta Ellis.

frick that.

A trade of Monta-Udoh-Thompson for CP3 is a non-starter.

The Celtics could beat that if the possibility of Rondo to Indiana is still alive.

Agreed.

I'd rather a draft pick than Monta.

I'd rather trade CP3 straight up for the Minnesota pick than Monta fricking Ellis. Just sign Marcus Thornton if you want Monta Ellis.

Apparently Boston tried to do a Rondo for Curry Swap to get back in the mix.

quote:

–By the way, this is probably why Boston recently contacted the Warriors to talk about the outlines of a deal potentially centering around Rajon Rondo-for-Curry (which I believe the GSWs flat-out rejected)…

And here's another reason they may be scared.

quote:

* What if they do this deal, spend like crazy to fit the roster for Paul, Paul walks at the end, anyway…

And the NBA eventually sells the Hornets to Larry Ellison, who moves them to San Jose.

The Theoretical San Jose Hornets, theoretically owned by the billionaire Lacob/Guber beat out for the GSW purchase, could be right down the road from the Warriors, starring a young guard named Steph Curry.

Theoretical Warriors: No Paul, no Curry.

Theoretical SJ Hornets: With Curry and Ellison’s billions.

That would be a Lacob nightmare, I think.

Too bad we don't have the lease and owner ironed out yet.

And that's got to be the craziest of them all. Don't want to trade him just in case the Hornets move to San Jose and Curry is playing down the street... What?!

If we get fricked, CP3 does, too.

That's actually very insulting to Thornton.

Not really. We'll be paying him and whether he wants to play it out with us or not, he's gonna go to NY after this season.

Which would result if CP3 fricking himself. CP3 is never going to the Knicks. It is not going to happen. They have way too much invested in Amare and Marshmelo to be able to offer him anything more than an insulting amount. It has been covered, but it would cost him around $40M to join the Knicks.

Which he will get back from endorsement deals and such. We already know that it's not all about the money to him. He's set on NY, which is why I think we're screwed. He's not gonna sign a long term deal with anyone except the Knicks and Lakers. Possibly Clippers if he gets his head out of his arse.

the NBA, in it's stupid wisdom, created a free agency system in the last CBA (years ago, not this year) wherein a team who re-signs its own player can give him (1) more years (2) higher starting salary and (3) bigger raises b/w each year

what this did is basically create 2 levels of FAs, those with this FA option, and those without it. this created the incentive for what melo did last year (where he could max out his deal AND go where he wanted)

so, in response, the NBA created the "carmelo rule," which creates a deadline (i think it's 12-31-11) wherein a player has to be dealt to keep this type of deal possible

again, this fricks the teams like the hornets, b/c instead of all year to deal cp3, we have 4 weeks

"Bird Rights" give a team the right to pay one of their players far more and for longer than another suitor can.

In CP3's case, a team with his Bird Rights would be able to give him about $100m over 5 years, regardless of the cap implications.

If he goes to New York, he's likely looking at about $60-70 million for that same timeframe, and that's probably over-estimating it considering that the Knicks are nearly capped-out.

He could only sign a Bird Rights deal with us. He would have to take a pay cut to sign with anyone else.

they just have to get enough in year 1 to sign him, and then it's all good

I'm not buying it. $40M in endorsement deals in 5 years? $8M MORE per year than his current endorsement deals? Also, see what pulling the dick move did for Lebron's "marketability." Sure, he's in a bigger local market, but he's also looked at as an a-hole to a decent portion of the national market, which is WAY bigger the Knicks, Lakers, or Miami market.
