Cap question and remaining salary to work with

Can someone clear up a cap question for me? I thought that it was originally speculated that Melli was going to be signed for 4 million a year using the room exception, but Spotrac has him and Redick structured in a way that they fit into the cap. Is this confirmed (though I guess nothing is confirmed until the official date)? Do we still have the 4.7 room to use? Because that would make a huge difference in adding a backup point or a vet big like (potentially Dudley?)

Adding another player could also cause either another player(s) to get cut (Bertans likely candidate as 19-20 not guaranteed) or a couple young guys get signed to two-way contracts.

An answer on the room exception question would clarify a lot of speculation of where we can still go

Currently Favors and Redick basically fit almost perfectly into our cap space and Melli the Exception.

We can move Etwaun in theory into space and free up about 8 million. We can cut Wood, Kenny and Okafor to free up some money as well but I'm not sure that adds up to 4 million.

I am shocked Dudley isn't a Pel right now.

Who do you want to cut to make room for him?

Yeah, that’s exactly how I understood it before I was looking at Spotrac today. Now that I look again, they don’t have a “signed using” listed for Melli, so it probably is going to be Room, just not listed yet because potentially they could fit him into cap space by renouncing/waiving other players (which isn’t possible for Redick). They do have his salary starting at 3.9 though and increasing instead of the other way around. I’m assuming the details aren’t out in case we need to be more flexible.

I don’t believe that this has been discussed much, but I don’t think we have used the trade exception for Mirotic. Couldn’t the Pelicans theoretically claim Raul Neto off of waivers with his 1/2.1 million contract and use the 3.1 million trade exception to fit him in?

On Early Bird Rights (great resource for salary info), the Pels have $90,551,435 in guaranteed salary. Favors makes $17,650,000 and that will obviously become guaranteed. So, right now the Pels have $108,201,435 in "guaranteed" salaries and 12 roster slots filled (so there is no empty roster slot charge, and I'm coming up with $106,497,112, so I'm not sure where the discrepancy is, but probably with incentives or partial guarantees of some type). So, it appears as though the Pels could still possibly use the room exception if they cut all of their nonguaranteed contracts (Williams, Okafor, Wood, and Bertans).

theres quite a few ways they could go with regard to the RLE, the cap, etc. all will be sorted on 7/6 when the deals become final.

Do you really not know much about the NBA or are you just trolling? Why would we cut Moore, with a guaranteed $8.7 million salary?

It would be cool if some of you who propose stupid shite would understand how salaries in the NBA work. What good does cutting a guaranteed salary do? You still have to pay it, and it's still on your cap. Stretching it would be stupid, barring extenuating circumstances.

i must be the only pels fan who thinks that moore is worth keeping this year. dude can shoot, and if he's not being asked to guard big wings, he can really be a positive

Or keep him until you get closer to the deadline. He's the kind of useful salary that teams want at the deadline. I think most people feel he's become a luxury that might take minutes from players we want to develop.

I really don't see the point in playing Moore over Hart.

I honestly forgot about Early Bird Rights site. The way they have it listed, Melli was signed using the room. I also forgot that we’ve already given Cheatham a two-way. Still a few ways we can go, but I’m just happy that we’ve given ourselves both current and future flexibility

the only reason is to keep whatever bargaining power we may have left in him for the trade deadline... other than that, he may as well wear a suit to every game, because he's just as likely to get put in the game in that outfit as he is in uniform...

Does he get backup time at the 3 or can Hart play the 3 if needed? We are still thin at the 3 with Ingram and then Williams backing him up. Maybe they play Zion at the 3 some as well?

Yeah, I think the Moore microwave-off-the-bench experiment just showed us that Moore is by far most effective whenever he’s the 4th or 5th option on the floor. Maybe with a deeper second unit he can do a little better in that role. Still, with the teams lack of proven shooters, youth, and the value of having an expiring contract at the deadline, I can’t imagine that Griff is in a hurry to unload Moore for peanuts

Hart play the 3

i'd think this is more likely... Moore is pretty much only suited to be a 2, back up 1... i can't see this changing in any lineup formation construction we currently have on our roster.... Hart could play 3 if you needed a few minutes from him and you wanted Jrue and Lonzo/JJ out there...

and thats exactly what he was in CHI before he came here and had to start at SF because dell demps.

15 minutes a game of launching threes is exactly what this team can exploit. thats worth every bit of keeping him
