I see a lot of proposed trades that include the pick. But we traded the 2018 pick. So can we trade the 2019 pick as well? I know about the Stepien rule and we still have the 2020 pick, so is that the loophole?

the rule is that you cannot be without consecutive picks at any one time

Yes. Stepien rule doesn’t apply. 2018 pick has already been conveyed.

Suggestion to the board:

I think you guys should sticky these type of very often asked questions regarding the CBA, trade rules, exceptions, etc.

I would be willing to help answer some of the FAQ's. It seems like there are 5-10 things that the casual followers ask 200-300 times a year. A sticky thread could help that.

Just a suggestion.

That would require:

An admin actually visiting this board and stickying the topic.

And

The non-regulars who post the same things over and over again reading the sticky AND understanding it.

We can trade 2018 and 2020 or we can trade 2019.

We could also allow for a switch of pick positions in a year we keep the pick.

We just need to keep from doing anything too stupid lest we end up like the Nets giving up several unprotected lottery picks.

Its just kind of a confusing rule and doesn't really do what it is intended to do. But I sort of get it now. The sticky thing is a good idea. But honestly, I looked thr rule up and was still kind of confused how we were able to trade last year and could again now..

Once the pick is made it’s no longer a pick it’s a player.

The Stepien rule is designed to not allow one misguided owner or GM from destroying a team’s future in one fell swoop.

the “billy king” is to alternate pick swaps with picks traded. Ingenious ineptitude
