I have to say Davis impresses the everloving crap out of me for a college freshman.

Yes. He's more impressive than Oden was and Oden was a "sure thing"

That's why I think a Garnett/Chandler hybrid is his defensive ceiling.

The obvious weakness that stands out is the 3 point shooting but he never took a bad 3 point shot, they always looked like they were going in but somehow managed to rattle out.

As far as bigs go, I think Perkins, Garnett, Howard, and Ibaka are all better. I'd put him in the next class with Noah.

Perkins might be the best post defender in the NBA, but he's a complete liability in pick and rolls, which tend to happen a lot in the NBA. Garnett in his prime puts Tyson to shame, but he's not at that level anymore. He's still amazing given his decreased mobility, but no longer a clear #1 guy. Howard, when engaged, is in a class of his own. He was either disinterested or not healthy this year, which is why I think Tyson was a legit DPOY. Now if you want to talk overrated defenders, Ibaka is where you start. He is on TV a lot and blocks a ton of shots, so people throw him out there with the other guys. He has all the physical tools to be a DPOY and all-world defender, but he also goes for every pump fake and constantly leaves his man searching for help blocks, giving up easy baskets if he misses. He's also not even the best post defender on his team (Perk). Simply put, he's not on any of those guys' level. Tyson is extremely effective in the post and has the mobility to cover guys out on the perimeter on switches. This is what people mean when they say Davis will "eat up space" on the court. If Davis is as good as we think he is, he very well could be someone with Tyson's defensive abilities, but with Blake's jaw-dropping athleticism, allowing him to be a much better defender than Tyson is now. As for his offense, I think we'll see a lot of similarities to KG there.

There was a guy on Gerry V's show yesterday that said AD might be the best pick and roll defender coming out of college he's ever seen. He just destroys the pick and roll.
