Retreads are ok if they can win. Gentry doesn't have a proven winning history. I mean the guy hasn't had long term success. Everyone points to basically one year with Phoenix but that's basically it. No need to hire a retread only to have to change the tire in two years. Look at his coaching record.

09-10 Suns Roster

Monty could of averaged 105+ PPg with that roster

His rosters really sucked during a majority of his coaching career.

I think the coaching record itself is a bit of an illusion. He actually went 72-41 in his one and a half seasons before amare decided to bolt. They had no good bigs on the roster until they got gortat.

He'd have a lot of talent to work with here. He did amazing work with amare in 2009 and AD is far more talented.

I'm confident Loomis won't let the Gentry hire take place. Monty wasn't fired in order to bring in a proven loser. It's kinda funny Gentry's name is actually on the list.

If they screw up this hire, it may create disastrous short and long term results. It won't create an ounce of excitement with the fan base and will send a clear message to the players that the organization doesn't know what the hell it's doing.

That's why dell is talking to everyone and loomis is likely involved in that.

He's making sure he looks at everything and who's to say he's not picking the brains of some of these coaches?

It's a great opportunity

I really don't care if a hire "excites" the fan base. Most of the nola.com tards would hire mark jackson or Cal just because they're a name.

I'm on the JVG pain train and would also love atkinson/messina. 90% of this fanbase has no idea who the latter 2 are.

Gentry has been a candidate for almost all of the head coaching jobs that have opened up in the past year. whether or not New Orleans is going to hire him, he will be a head coach again soon.

Alvin f#cking Gentry! Really?! With JVG begging for the job and Thibodeau floating around this can't be the hire right?

My issue is that is tantamount to allowing Gentry an excuse that Monty was denied. This is the new guy, same as the old guy.

Except gentry has proven he can take a team deep into the playoffs.

He also has proven he can run a great offense

Monty's calling card was defense but that never came to fruition.

(Gentry isn't my favorite,I'm just playing devils advocate)

Loomis is the one Gentry met with this morning. Not saying it will lead to a hire, but Loomis is obviously interested enough.

With a roster that Mike Dantoni loaded. MVP PG and all-NBA PF.

This goes back to my example of the supervisor choosing results over making his subordinates life easier. Supervisors will choose results 9 out of 10 times, but they still give easy a once over. Now maybe Gentry can sell Loomis on his system and say "Amare averaged 25 for me, I can get AD a scoring title. Jrue is an average PG now, but with his skill set in my system he'll be a top 5 PG." There are definitely angles he can take that will sound too good to be true. This team was a top 10 offense despite how poorly run it was, so an offensive coach should be able to make it top 5 with no problems. All of that is great and wonderful, but how does he move the defense from back of the pack to top 10? That's what he needs to have an answer for, and the answer would likely have to be in the form of a top tier defensive assistant.

Leave the weed at home or Daltrey will throw a fit. I have always like the Who, but a band with a pedophile throwing a fit about pot is just silly.

Legitimate Monty complaints were more pointed than his record sucks. Legitimate complaints with Gentry should be more pointed than his record sucks too: like does he know how to manage an entire locker room as the boss and can he push a group of guys who've never had much team success to the next level? One thing to get there post D'Antoni with a leader like Nash, another with guys who've never been there before.

All of the names come with plusses and minuses. It comes down to personal preference and do you trust Demps/FO to make a sound decision. Based on this thread, many PTers, unsurprisingly, don't.

If Gentry can put together a really good staff then I'm for him. Our offense would be incredible. AD would average close to 30 ppg

Most people on this board didnt like the QPon trade either..

Stupid trade. Why take on more salary for a fringe player? Leave it to Dell to make ANOTHER minor move just to do so.
