But he can't lead a team to a championship as the main guy. That's been proven.

He was the best player on the title team last year and only failed to win Finals MVP because his co-Star couldn’t guard Jimmy Butler(forcing AD to switch on him) and started jacking up shots the moment “AD is going to win Finals MVP” chatter was coming.

He is not however an alpha locker room presence if that’s what you mean.

CP3 and AD weren’t good enough to be the best player on a championship or even conference finals level team.

that's wrong. they both definitely were/are good enough.

Consider that Paul was one home game away and AD would have done so in a year without the Warriors dynasty in his way

Uh, neither have won a legitimate championship yet, and the *Championship AD won, he wasn't the best player on his team.

rebounder, shot blocker, defender, foul shooter, jump shooter

AD wasn't really particularly good at a few of those things this early in his career.

bunchie, we had Zion pinned as an offensively efficient juggernaut on day 1. It took some convincing but i believe you are buying in to that now? I certainly believe Z is going to continue to improve his game on that end, as we have already seen evidence of that. Do you see a path where he can make the jump to All NBA type defender?

Through two seasons, AD's rebounding rate and block rate were higher than his career averages, and his defensive rating was nearly inline with his career average of 103. You arent saying he wasnt particularly good there, huh? He was near elite.

Rebounding rate
AD 16.7%
ZIon 12%

Block rate
AD 6%
Zion 1.8%

D Rating
AD 104
Zion 115

He shot 77% on 665 free throws.

I guess one could say he wasnt a particularly good jump shooter yet.

Certainly you don’t believe TS% is an indicator of one’s offensive skillset?

It’s amongst the best aggregate measures of offensive scoring efficiency we have. And Zion already blows away AD in less than a full season of games with superstar defensive attention paid to him.

Like I said, skillsets are nice and you’d like to see Zion expand out his, but 2 points is 2 points whether Zion gets it off a bully lay up or an iso crossover followed by a Dirk step back jumper or into a dream shake. And Zion gets those points more efficiently than AD already.

Didn’t contest the rest about boards and defense, but Zion doesn’t need to be all team defense to be better than AD. I’d take Harden or Curry over AD if I’m trying to win in the next few years, because they are better players and better players at winning basketball games. Zion doesn’t have to check off every box of AD’s to surpass him, and he’s already on a much better pace and trajectory as an overall better winning basketball player than AD was this time in his career. So my money’s on Zion being the better player barring injury.

Zion is also a better facilitator than AD.

The most important part might be the fact zion can get his own shot. AD couldn't do that early on.

Yeah I don’t really give a shite about matching AD’s skillset one for one, that’s a weird hill to to want to fight on, just develop into an overall better, more winning player.

And things like his ability to facilitate and run your offense this well at his age is a big part of trending toward that.

Of course it is one indicator, provided one knows how to fully understand it within context.

The media pushing for small market teams to fail from the beginning
People need to start calling this out big time. Make small market teams out to be a victim. Make it politically incorrect to advocate for star players to leave small market teams for big market teams.

AD had a good run in the bubble but there were ALOT of people who thought LeBron should have won MVP last year

So no he was not the best player on that team and still isn’t.
