Mac a good tweet that shows how well set up we actually are for the long term. Griff and Dumars have put us into a really solid position.

Herb and Trey are already quality NBA starters. There's a good chance that Missi will be a quality NBA starter by that time. If either Fears or Queen also becomes a quality starter, then we would have four of our five starters locked up for only $70 million.

That leaves about $100 million for a couple of All-Stars. Maybe those All-Stars are Zion and Murray, and maybe they are other players instead, but we're set up very well.

Herb's contract extension really solidifies our future.

That's actually just the "cap". The tax line will be closer to $220+

We would have trade capacity for Murray/ Zion/ Poole and smaller contracts. So that $100 would really be closer to $150mil I believe. And we still have (3) all star caliber players in Murray/ Zion/ Poole.

If it isn't them, I'm not sure how you acquire 2 all-stars. That's the issue we all see. All of our eggs are in that basket, moreso than ever.

Murray isnt a part of the Pelicans long term vision. They made that known the second Fears was taken but thats what you want to happen. The ideal scenario is Herb is the same old Herb on d and still hitting 40% from the corner 3, Trey taking the next step on both ends of the floor which gives Zion a Robin to his Batman while Zion starts to make the impact we all hoped he would. Our young guys like Missi, Fears and Queen find their roles and play them well. If we can hit 2/3 of this draft it would be a homerun.

Contract with SKC expires in 2029

NBA will not commit to extension without a firm investment in a new arena

By the time this team is good - we will be gone

Yes but I don't think its as bad as people think. Murray/ Zion are all star players. As long as they come back healthy and playing well then it shouldn't be a problem to move either and get high level players back. Poole legit has a chance to be an all star this year and also is in a better situation while looking for an extension pay day.

We still have 28'/ 30'/ 32' as trade assets. We will also still have the better of Pels/ MIL 27' which is now a way better pick than 26'.

Murray/ Zion/ Poole/ (3) 1st is more than about 95% of other teams can offer if we are making a hail mary trade.

We're really still doing this? After 5 years?

a question nobody seems to be asking…Trey Murphy is a smart guy as well as a good player. He’s well liked, well respected and would be in great demand elsewhere. Why are we so certain that he will be just fine winning nothing until 2030 or later?

If Zion is moved (and I believe he will be), this team is going to be mediocre to bad and possibly very bad. Murphy is on his 2nd contract, is he really going to be ok with waiting until his 3rd to play any meaningful games?

Here's another question that nobody seems to be asking ... are y'all aware that Trey Murphy has each played exactly 110 games in the last two seasons (only 10 more than Zion)?

Trey needs to play a healthy season as a starter before we start worrying about him wanting to leave.

The whole point of my OP was that we could be an elite team two years from now. If Missi/Fears/Queen turns into at least two above-average starters (even if they don't actually start), then we'll have the salary structure to contend.

you said we’d have 100MM in room with 5 players under contract. Splain to me how that’s elite

and re: Murphy he’d have a line out the door if he were to be made available or make himself available, way longer than Zion. And yes he hasn’t accomplished anything which is welcome to todays NBA.
