The 538 computer model currently predicts the following lottery slot order:
1) Rockets
2) Pistons
3) Spurs
4) Magic
5) Hornets
6) Thunder
7) Lakers
The Rockets, Pistons, and Spurs are truly committed to the tank, and I really don't think that there's any way that the Lakers could fall behind them in the standings.
But the others?
The Hornets didn't have LeMelo until recently, and then they had Hayward hurt, but they seem to finally be getting healthy. The Magic are 8-2 in their last ten games. And the Thunder have an MVP candidate in SGA.
I don't think that any of those three teams are committed to the tank yet.

SGA has done enough that All-Nba is in play for him. Don't see him agreeing to shut down, or them asking, with that contract bump on the table. If he isn't shut down in March like normal they should be better.
Magic have some pieces that just regular development could keep them better than the Lakers.

The 7 spot has jumped into the top 4 every year since they changed the odds. Lucky number 7 will lose its luck at some point, but 7 is the spot I’d want if they stay outside of the top 4.
