Over the past ten years, the Pelicans/Hornets have lost two superstars, Chris Paul and Anthony Davis, for the same reason. The team was not able to build a supporting cast around the superstar and they left in search of a better market.

This is the final year of Zion's rookie contract. If I'm Zion, and the Pelicans fail to bring in additional talent and/or make the playoffs, I'm looking at the careers of CP3 and AD and getting my arse out of town.

If he does that (which honestly, who could blame him) then that will be the third superstar in 11 years to leave New Orleans because they could not win a championship because of a lack in supporting talent.

If that happens, then that's it. It's over.

Who the hell would want to come to NOLA after seeing three superstars leave the program for the same reason? If the team loses Zion, we might as well just pack up and move to Seattle. There's no point in rebuilding.

David Griffin, for the love of God, save this franchise. Thank you.

I think this offseason is one of the most important in team history.

It is just compounded by how utterly disastrous last offseason turned out to be, and now all of the chatter. It has a compounding effect.

If this offseason isn't AT LEAST a stand up double...Griffin could shitcanned after this season. He needs to kind of nail it.

I feel like we will look back ten years from now and be able to connect a lot of dots to the past three months and next six months.

1) Jrue and CP3 are guys we traded and were in the NBA finals.
2) We hold some Bucks picks and they will either become valuable or degraded because of the championship they just won.
3) The Lakers lose in the first round and could tank and that may make their picks worth a lot…or not.
4) We fire SVG and bring in a coach hot off a Finals appearance. Not to mention his ties to a former coach in Monty and player in CP3.
5) Then we have the draft in a week and free agency after that.

I’m not saying we win a championship next year or anything, but this is either the off-season it starts falling into place for the future or the year we set ourself up for colossal disappointment.

I think they made the right moves last off-season, they just didn't work out, and i don't think anyone could foresee that.
You bring in a veteran PG that should be able to start and allow you to bring your rookie PG along until he's ready to take the starting job from him.
You do the same with the center position, regardless of the contract decision with Adams, that was the plan with a promising rookie.

Neither seemed to work out at all.
I think the biggest mistake of last offseason was not allowing the salary space to add an MLE player, mainly a shooter. They should have found a way to keep Hill instead of Bledsoe, as Hill would have provided the same plan as far as starting in front of the promising rookie until he's ready. Hill's a great 3 point shooter, and would allowed us to play Kira more, and add that MLE shooter.

Definitely some serious potential this offseason. I have high hopes, but it could definitely be a disaster again

If they didn't work out, then they weren't the right moves

We say it every year how pivotal our offseason is.

I think this offseason feels so big because we have a playoff level roster in place that sucked last year because of mediocre coaching and inexperience. We were only a couple small moves away from being a playoff team, and the fanbase can feel it.

As bad as Bledsoe played, I still like the Jrue trade. Didn’t like the Adam’s trade at all, the value of the trade or the extension. I saw that disaster a mile away, said so many times, so you wrong on that end. Thought we shoulda tried to trade up and get Halliburton. But still like Kira. Thought we shoulda traded up with our 2nd first to get Maxey or Bey.

So outside the Jrue trade, Griff didn’t do anything I wanted….

I am resigned to losing Zion...it may not be next season, or even three seasons from now, but we will lose him. There is nothing that this franchise has ever done that gives me hope they can build this the right way.

We will be the Celtics, with an enormous war chest that amounts to disappointment in the playoffs.

I meant more the plan of why the moves were made, getting veterans at positions to be a stop gap while you bring along the promising rookies.

It would have been nice to make the playoffs this year, but that was never the goal of this past year. Next year they better be in the playoffs. That was always the plan.
The bigger mistake with the team was the coaching hire. You can say it all you want that it's not true, but those guys never bought into SVG. I started mentioning that about 2/3rds through the season. There were too many signs that they simply didn't want to play for him, and it wasn't working.

that is a travesty right here. That Adams trade had bigger repercussions than him not playing great. We should have kept that pick we had in the 20's and used it to move up when we saw both of them falling, plus we moved Hill instead of Bledsoe causing us to not be able to use the MLE.

No it's not.

Chris Paul left at the time because the owner literally had no money and couldn't keep the team they had together. If it were the Benson's that were owners at that time and had the cash flow to keep that team together, CP3 may still be here today. He loved the city.

1. they sucked because inexperienced you say.

and you think NOW they are a playoff team?

they sucked because none of their bigs could shoot from 3 most of the year.
they sucked because lonzo isnt a real pg in half court.
they sucked because none of the starters play serious in your face defense.
hart is the only all in all the time defender and hes limited on offense.

2. small moves. bledsoe and Adams.
Bledsoe was possibly the worst deal in nba last year. for teams mental health he must go.
Adams is older now but ok if you can ride hayes as starter.

to get into playoff either finish 6th or win one or two games in the 7 to 10 playin.
gsw and memphis will be better as key players heal up. they were both in playin anyway. so they are in the way.

let's wait out trades and draft before saying pels are a playoff team.
not yet.
rate them
z B+ offense. meh defense
ingram. A- offense. meh finishing.
meh defense

zo s and t
bledsoe im paying someone to take him.
Adams is practicing 3s. keep.
Billy. keep.
naw ready. !
hayes improved
kira. incomplete

didi. mkeh

doesnt look like playoffs yet.

do the deals.
let's see in two months and compare to the others most likely in 6th thru 11th.

The offseason is going to be important.. but in my opinion the bigger needle-mover will be whether Willie Green and his assistants can get this roster to buy in on both sides of the ball

There is enough talent here already that a 25% increase in effort alone should yield a similar increase in win percentage

I don’t think he meant the right moves. I think he meant they actually tried to bring in talent and upgrade the roster. It just didn’t work because Adam’s wasn’t a fit and Bledsoe was well…Bledsoe.

I mean…did we? I never understood the “this team should have made the playoffs” takes. Lebron and Curry were in the PLAY IN but we “should have” made the playoffs

I for sure think this is the most important offseason For Zion. But man, I’m really to the point where if he ends up wanting to leave, he’s gonna leave man. Then guess what? You get the richest trade return in the history of the league. Then build around Ingram.

The idea that the team will cease to exist if we don’t go deep into the playoffs is hilarious.
