Nick Young was oh so close to becoming a member of the 2017-18 New Orleans Pelicans roster.

According to Zach Lowe on his latest podcast, both the Pelicans and the Golden State Warriors had an expectation that Young was going to wind up in New Orleans.

“They were in on Nick Young. They thought they were going to get Nick Young and the Warriors thought New Orleans was going to get Nick Young until a last minute reversal.”

The ultimate question, of course, is what the hell went wrong? Did Young have a sudden change of heart and decided ring-chasing was the better path to travel? Did the Pelicans fail to agree to one of his demands, whether contractual, regarding his role on the team, or something else during the final negotiations?

I honestly don’t see a logical answer that stands head and shoulders above all others. Do you? Either way, New Orleans has only added Jrue Holiday during this free agency period and will reportedly take a look at Darius Miller in training camp. For a roster that is in dire need of more shooting and ball handling, hope there’s more upgrades to come.

Damn Nick Young would've been the perfect shooter for this team.

Inaccurate - the offer was pulled by Dell - we have already talked about this in the free agency thread

Cause Crewz said so.

According to Crewz, he thought signing Young will limit cap and possibilities this offseason. Gentry didn't seem to agree, but it makes sense with Holiday's salary breakdown being what it is. We have less room to play with right now.

All the Pels bloggers have been saying that the best way to improve the team is through trades right now.

Dell thought at the time that there was a better move out there for us that we wouldn't be able to do if we signed NY. I guess we'll see how it plays out

If we end up with CJ Miles and Jeremy Lin then it's a good move. If we end up with just Darius Miller...not so much.

I mean, we have no assets other than our first round pick.

Is a first round pick enough for another team to take on Asik's dick of a contract?

I seriously doubt it, but if a team is looking to tank, Asik and a first rounder is the perfect package...

Part of tanking is taking is clearing cap space... taking on Asik doesn't do that.

I heard Dell was outside of the club that Young and Draymond were at and they wouldn't let him in

The other part is losing games.

Taking on Asik will do that.

Nick Young signed 1 year deal worth $5.2 million
