I don’t blame him for the post. It was some dark days. Hell, we even lost one of the Houston games.

It was absolutely dark days. I even posted in the thread, that sure, we have zero shot to win 6 more games if we continued playing like we were.

But as I also pointed out, that was never a very realistic scenario, to continue playing THAT poorly. We just had too many dudes too good to play that bad. Not saying that means we are a good team. Hell, the 7-5 we've gone since this thread isn't even that impressive or as good as we should have been, but point is, we were not bottom 3 level bad and were never going to continue playing that bad for a sustained longer length of time.

Glad we look to be picking up our play at the right time though. Hopefully, we can get another nice win tonight and build more momentum and confidence.

Yep, big opportunity tonight to get what should be a win, and then this 4 game road trip that looked like would be a huge W to just get to 2 wins would net 2 wins in the 1st 2 games.

A lot of it was self inflicted wounds. There's a reason people started making Fire Willie posts. Hopefully they've righted the ship and have learned lessons.

My biggest issue is why it takes Willie months to figure out what fans see in real time.

He either is too stubborn (maybe), too dumb (I don't think so), or too accommodating to vets feelings (my theory).

I get the "take it 10 games at a time" thing. What big business doesn't make sure they have sufficient data for their decisions? What disturbed me, and still worries me, is Willie was doing the exact same thing as SVG did. He was so focused on defense that he didn't see the lack of care on offense was making the defense worse, and that the fix wasn't more defense which is all he kept trying, but better offense. It's like deja vu all over again.

I still contend that maybe not all, and maybe not even this one, but generally there's probably a shite ton of things we don't think about or factor.

It's definitely odd and hard to explain how fans want something all season then the moment we go to it, it works. I'm just saying, I don't think every instance is the coach just didn't even think of that. I just think there's some shite internally that we'd never know about that was causing it to be held up or impossible to roll out at that time.

Again, speaking more generally but yea, this one was a real head scratcher for sure.

Their own employee said as much very often on the broadcasts. AD said a missed shot is like a turnover because of how you can run like a lot of younger teams love to do.

I think it's egos of the players. Like Willie has to give them every opportunity to fail so that they see it as clearly as everyone else does.

That's all fine and good in certain situations but when your season is falling apart, frick feelings and egos.

That, and just team dynamics in general, I'd bet are part of it a lot of times.

Completely agree. It's tough for coaches though, you don't want to coddle players but if you lose one of your best players, you're pretty much done.

i wouldn't say just a missed shot, but a bad missed shot is like a turnover. There's certain shots that just aren't smart shots, and leave your transition defense in a bad spot.

This is more important that playing half court defense after someone walks it up the court.

turnovers and bad shots on offense are what makes a decent defensive team terrible.
