Honerable mention to Steve Kimock. Saw this dude live at BB King in NYC once and this cat can play. Jerry once said of him "he's the greatest guitar player that nobody knows"

thank god someone put dimebag in here. I'm tired of seeing this same thread and no one ever mentions him. clueless people I guess.

Not denying his talent, just not my style I suppose. I'd list many before getting to him. All subjective.

The very first time I saw, or heard, of Nils Lofgren was a program on PBS that featured both him and Roy Buchanan. I was hooked. I'm not a great fan of Bruce Springsteen, but I drag myself to every show I can to watch Nils play. I hate to admit it, but I even watched the short-lived Paula Pundstone talkshow because Nils was the music director on the program.

Keep in mind this is favorite not necessarily who I think is the greatest.

1) Duane Allman
2) Eric Clapton
3) Micheal Houser
4) Jimi Hendrix
5) Neil Young

Eric Johnson will always be tops on my list.

Watching the guy play, it's not difficult to see that he's got total command over the guitar. His playing has no weakness. His technique is flawless. His tone & style are instantly recognizable. He managed to take signature things from his influences and combine them to create his own sound. He's as versatile of a player as there is. His records contain rock, jazz, country, blues, & fusion based numbers. EJ's one of the few guitarists that could release nothing but instrumental records that i wouldn't get bored listening to.

Although most would never consider any of these guys as the one of "best ever", i like their styles and
a lot of the music that they made.

Warren DeMartini

Also, Keller Williams. Dude can play the shite out of multiple instruments, guitar especially included.

Dude is a beast. I prefer him with The Keels though.

I've seen him live a couple times by himself and he just doesn't do it for me in a live setting. I think its just because he doesn't fill the stage out though. I can jam to him in the truck at any time though
