3) don’t look back in anger - oasis
2) deep inside of you - 3eb
1) mr Jones - counting crows ( cheesy but it’s gotta be there)

If I had to rank Counting Crows songs, "Mr. Jones" might not be the very last one I list, but certainly one of the last five. I hate that song so very very much. And I actually really like Counting Crows.

Great call on "What I Got", though. That one makes my top ten as well.

I can't leave Smells Like Teen Spirity off my list.

Run-around might crack my top ten as well.

Bittersweet Symphony makes the cut

Tonight Tonight is on there.

I'm about halfway there

I have assembled the definitive list:

1. Green day -- when I come around
2. Sublime -- what I got
3. Temple of the Dog -- Hunger Strike
4. Weezer -- Only In Dreams
5. The Verve -- Bittersweet Symphony
6. Oasis -- Wonderwall
7. Nirvana -- Smells Like Teen Spirit
8. Better Than Ezra -- Good
9. DMB -- Crash Into Me
10. Goo Goo Dolls -- Name*

Honorable Mention:
Blues Traveler -- Run Around
Ben Folds Five -- Brick
RHCP -- Soul to Squeeze
Afghan Whigs -- Crazy
Pearl Jam -- Elderly Woman
Mother Love Bone - Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns
U2 -- Sweetest Thing
GnR -- November Rain
Semisonic -- Closing time
Spacehog -- In The Meantime
Counting Crows -- Omaha
Paul Westerberg -- Dyslexic Heart
Radiohead -- Karma Police
Third eye blind -- How's It Gonna Be
Verve Pipe -- The Freshmen

____________
*sorry not sorry. It's a real good song.

This is my 'era' although couldn't find many songs on the initial few lists that I liked. Your list is much closer to my favorites, such as:

Sublime (any of their hits)
Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike
RHCP (various)
Alice in Chains (any of their hits that qualify)
Black - Pearl Jam (if it counts)

I love Green Day and sublime too, but to me they’re definitely outside the genre I was referring to.

Why? I think "Time of Your Life" would fit in with any of those other songs, as well as "When I Come Around."

To me, Green Day is a different genre (with their punk rock roots) than the generic, late 90s pop-rock bands like goo goo dolls, semisonic, 3eb, etc. if you notice, most, if not all bands I listed were one hit wonders or had very limited success outside a short span in the 90s. For myself, not including Green Day on the list is more complimentary to them.

I do agree that those 2 songs mentioned are softer sounding.

These lists are completely subjective, I just wouldn’t include any blink 182, Green Day, or sublime songs on it.
