I think fame can be a good thing but also a bad thing. Imagine being a huge star and preforming all over the world and having fans crave for you! Listen being a huge Hollywood singer must be the bees knees.... however there comes alot with it. Then again, imagine being famous for a one hit wonder. You would be famous forever. So what says you?

One hit wonder with a monster hit that generates residuals for decades and performed in a costume or makeup that lets me be at least somewhat anonymous.

I have no urge to be famous, rich would be nice though.

Alexander O'Neal took advantage of the Prince era/Minneapolis Sound and had just a handful of pop/R&B songs that charted. He was basically a one-album wonder.

He said he wanted to make a ton of life-changing fast cash, get in & out the business so he would barely be recognizable in other cities & countries without being mobbed at restaurants, malls, theaters, etc. Then if he chose to, re-visit music/performing, should he ever get the itch again.

Smart move, IYAM

A ‘has been’ ends up playing fairs and grand openings. I saw a guy playing guitar in a vacant gate in the Memphis airport a few years back. Either on his way up or on his way down.

I would rather be a famous signer that has a YouTube channel than be famous and more mainstream.

That way you can still be unknown and wouldn't be bothered by so many crazy people.

Do like Oliver Anthony and play it twice per show.

I once heard that Percy Sledge did that too.

Ricky Van Shelton was like that.

Had quite a bit of success and then disappeared.

I've had this discussion with band mates. I call it the Matchbox 20 dude theory (obviously eliminating Rob Thomas). I want to be the guitar player or drummer or something for Matchbox 20. Get songwriting credits and mailbox money, come up with great hooks and melodies that people will hum along to for decades, and go to Target to pick up toothpaste and deodorant and no one know who I am.

John Deacon, original bass player from Queen, is a good example of that. Wrote a few tunes like You’re My Best Friend and Another One Bites the Dust. Retired to his mansion in the 90s, stays out of the public eye, and watches the royalties roll in. My hero.

Steve Miller said that he can go out in the public and no one would know who he is.

I read an interview with him years back and he talked about bicycling through the tailgates at his own shows. No one ever recognized him.

The guys in Kiss had a great plan. Until they took the makeup off.
