The class song the year I graduated was an Aldean song. Had to hear his crap nonstop during graduation week at every single event.
I despise country music, but he managed to pull out even more hate.

I'd hate that, too. But the backwater town I lived in loved their redneck anthems. Aldean won in a landslide in the class vote.

What is to like?
Someone else mostly plays the music. Someone else writes the lyrics and the music. Jason dresses up in Affliction-hick, and sings the lyrics with his mediocre vocal talent. Good for him, he's a business man. But he's not much of a musical talent.

No country song ever shocked me with awfulness the way Gilbert Brantley's In the Sticks (something like that) did last year. My god my ears wanted to die.

Reverse that...it's Brantley Gilbert. You really didn't like that song . Thomas Rhett wrote 1994 and in a recent interview said he gives some of his terrible songs to artists and it's up to them to record it. He doesn't care what happens to the song as long as his bank account goes up!!

That is the thing with music. A song like Sleepyhead is good regardless of the words, because it is the sound that is the "hook" on the song.
In a country song the hook is the lyric.
In country music of old, etc. The song told a story and the hook was the rythym and melody.
Now we have migrated to where the hook is a buzzword/ phrase that is cliche to appeal to the changed majority. Since this makes money, it is mainstreamed and people that just like the melody and hook will keep listening to it because it doesnt completely repulse them.
