I like some on your list. As I've said before I'm just not a huge fan of the Texas country. Some of it's ok but I just prefer the 90s stuff.
Alan Jackson
Mark Chesnutt
Tracy Lawrence
Travis Tritt
Brooks and Dunn
And the bands...Diamond Rio, Sawyer Brown, Little Texas, Shenandoah, Restless Heart.
Those were the days of country IMO.

Turnpike's about as close to traditional country as you can find these days, and they work their arse off. Granted, they are finding more success these days, but I can't imagine them ever even thinking about recording some of the shite that Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, Luke Bryan, etc. have put out.
Evan takes a lot of pride in his music...he won't even collaborate with other artists...and to see him work so hard to create real music that tells a story when those jack asses can just chant "Joe...Joe...Joe DIFF-EHH" and sell out arenas just infuriates me. It's laughable that they can even be considered "artists", let alone COUNTRY artists. It's a complete slap in the face to real country artists who are everything that is right with music.

Yes, I can't understand how Aldean, Bryan, etc can sell out arenas and people like Randy Rogers, Gary Allan and Reckless Kelly, etc. are playing in bars.

She had a shiny little beamer with the ragtop down
sitting in the drive but she wouldn't get out
The dogs were all barking and a wagging around
And I just laughed and said yall get in
She had on a new dress and she curled her hair
She was looking to good not to go somewhere
Said what'cha wanna do baby I don't care
We can go to the show
we can stay right here
and I can take you for a ride on my big green tractor
we can go slow or make it go faster
down through the woods and out to the pasture
long as I'm with you it really don't matter
climb up in my lap and drive if you want to
girl you know you got me to hold on to
we can go to town or baby if you'd rather
I'll take you for a ride on my big green tractor
we can fire it up and I can show you around
sit up on the hill and watch the sun go down
when the fireflies are dancing and the moon comes out
we can turn on the lights and head back to the house
or we can take another ride on my big green tractor
we can go slow or make it go faster
down through the woods and out to the pasture
long as I'm with you it really don't matter
climb up in my lap and drive if you want to
girl you know you got me to hold on to
we can go to town baby if you'd rather
I'll take you for a ride on my big green tractor
Just let me dust of the seat
put your pretty little arms around me
You can climb up in my lap and drive if you want to
girl you know you got me to hold on to
we can go to town or baby if you'd rather
I'll take you for a ride on my big green tractor
We can go to town or we can go another round

Ain't a whole lot going on
Small town Friday night
Revving up at a red light
On your mark, get set, go
Pass a mom and pop restaurant
Same four trucks parked out front
I guess ya gotta make your own fun
When you're stuck in a place this slow
There's only two means of salvation around here that seem to work
Whiskey or the bible, a shot glass or revival
When you don't seem to run on either side of the fence
People act like you don't make sense
These big town dreams that I've been chasing
Will never come true if I wind up staying
And I don't want to fall in the same rut that everybody here seems to be stuck in now
Why do I hang around
Yeah, yeah
In this church pew or bar stool kinda town?
I'm like that AM station
that never comes in right
'til you pass that city limit sign
that's the only time it all gets clear
it's crystal clear that I
just need to find
a place where there's no lines
nothing like it is around here
someplace where it don't feel like this world revolves around
Whiskey or the bible, a shot glass or revival
When you don't seem to run on either side of the fence
People act like you don't make sense
These big town dreams that I've been chasing
Will never come true if I wind up staying
And I don't want to fall in the same rut that everybody here seems to be stuck in now
Why do I hang around
In this church pew or bar stool kinda town?
Here it sometimes feels just like this world revolves around
whiskey or the bible, shot glass or revival
When you don't seem to run on either side of the fence
People act like you don't make sense

Will never come true if I wind up staying

yeah i need to get out
of this church pew or bar stool kind of town

He gets up before the dawn
Packs a lunch an' a thermos full of coffee
It's another day in the dusty haze
Those burnin' rays are wearin' down his body
The diesels worth the price of gold
It's the cheapest grain he's ever sold
But he's still holdin' on
He just takes the tractor another round
An' pulls the plow across the ground
And sends up another prayer
He says: Lord, I never complain, I never ask 'Why?'
Please don't let my dreams run dry
Underneath, underneath this Amarillo Sky
That hail storm back in '83
Sure did take a toll on his family
But he stayed strong and carried on
Just like his Dad and Granddad did before him
On his knees every night
He prays Please let my crops and children grow
'Cause that's all he's ever known
He just takes the tractor another round
An' pulls the plow across the ground
And sends up another prayer
He says: Lord, I never complain, I never ask 'Why?'
Please don't let my dreams run dry
Underneath, underneath this Amarillo Sky
An' he takes the tractor another round
Another round
Another round
An' he takes the tractor another round, another round.
He says I never complain, I never ask 'Why?'
Please don't let my dreams run dry

Oh, you like the way that sounds?
Little Jimmy Jackson is jackin' up his Bronco
He's gonna lay a little rubber later on at the truck pull
An' all the girls are getting' pretty... they're sprayin' on the White Rain
Yeah, they're gonna get a rowdy tonight down at the football game
Yeah, we let it rip when we got the money...
Let it roll if we got the gas
It gets wild, yeah, but that's the way we get down
In a Hicktown
Well, you can see the neighbors butt crack nailing on his shingles
An' his woman's' smokin' Pall Mall's watchin' Laura Ingalls
An' Granny's getting' lit, she's headin' out to bingo
Yeah, my buddies an' me are goin' muddin' down on Blue Hole Road
You know, you know, we let it rip when we got the money...
Let it roll if we got the gas
It gets wild, yeah, but that's the way we get down,
In a Hicktown
We hear folks in the city party in Martini Bars,
An' they like to show off in their fancy foreign cars.
Out here in the boondocks we buy beer at Amoco,
An' crank our Kraco speakers with that country radio.
We let it rip when we got the money...
Let it roll if we got the gas.
It gets wild, yeah, but that's the way we get down.
Oh, oh we let it rip when we got the money...
Let it roll if we got the gas.
It's buck wild, yeah, but that's the way we get down,
In a Hicktown.
In a Hicktown.
That's the way we get down in a Hicktown.
In Hicktown, yeah, in Hicktown.
Got your country boys and your redneck girls
It's the party heard round the world
Right here in Hicktown
In Hicktown
The whole town's getting down
In Hicktown
Yeah, in Hicktown

She was raised up in Jersey
I said oh Lord have mercy
Never seen a one light town 'til she moved down here
She said I'm so bored out of my mind
Need a Starbucks and a wifi
Or a jet airliner to fly me anywhere
I said do you wanna take a drive in my truck
Don't pay no mind to that 12 point buck
Laid across my hood
You ever been to
Rome Georgia
Picked peaches off the trees
Climbed the water tower in Paris Tennessee
Been to Florence Alabama
Drank muscadine wine
Just give me a chance to change your mind
So before you go and fly away girl
Let me show you 'round a country boy's world
Somewhere between there on a dirt road
When I rolled down my window
She smelled the scent of wildflowers on the summer wind
With just a bite of homeade ice cream
And a glass of Momma's sweet tea
This ol' holler's got a way of makin' friends
She'd never seen a glowin' field of fireflies
Or the twinkle of a star in a southern sky
She fell in love
We went down to
Rome Georgia
Picked peaches off the trees
Climbed the water tower in Paris Tennessee
Went to Florence Alabama
Drank muscadine wine
She gave me a chance and I made her mine
Says she'll never fly away and she's my girl
It's 'cause I showed her 'round a country boy'd world
Oooh now she's riding shotgun
Sayin' baby let's run wild
And go down to
Rome Georgia
Pick peaches off the trees
Climb the water tower in Paris Tennessee
Goto Florence Alabama
Drink muscadine wine
She gave me a chance and I made her mine
Says she'll never fly away and she's my girl
It's 'cause I showed her 'round a country boy's world

I worked all week.
Cleaned up clean cut and clean shaved.
I got the cover off the '68.
I fire it up and let them horses sing.
A little pretty thing.
A little tan-legged Georgia dream.
She’s a rockin’ them holey jeans.
Baby what you got goin’ on Saturday?
You know words got it there’s gonna be a party
Out of town about half a mile.
Four wheel drives and big mud tires.
Muscadine wine
Oh baby you can find me.
In the back of a jacked up tailgate.
Sittin’ ‘round watchin’ all these pretty things.
Get down in that Georgia clay.
And I’ll find peace.
At the bottom of a real tall cold drink.
I'm chillin' to some Skynyrd and some old Hank.
Lets get this thing started.
It’s my kinda party.
If you wanna drink,
Go baby just do your thing.
Give up your keys.
Hell why drive when you can stay with me?
And then after while we’ll sneak away from the bonfire.
Walk by the moonlight and down to the riverside.
Gotcha sippin' on some moonshine.
Baby if you're in the mood you can settle for a one night rodeo,
You can be my tan-legged Juliet,
I’ll be your Redneck Romeo.
Ya'll ready for this?
Ya'll gonna turn it on up.

i was going to start a case study thread on him but i had too many characters, so i'm breaking it up and posting it here. anyone feel like playing i spy?

if he sucks so bad why do so many people dig his music? if your shitty, obscure, indie band is so awesome how come nobody buys their album?
disclaimer: i like several shitty, obscure, indie bands

i don't really give a shite if people like him or not. i admitted to liking some of his songs, but i hate that i like him because i know just how awful he is.
he's exploiting the idiocy of southerner stereotypes and teenage boys with jacked up 4x4s who live in the suburbs and who have never seen a gravel road. it's not solely his fault, it's the nashville scene for pushing that shite off as country music. it's pop music riddled with stereotypes

Because people are sheep and buy what they are exposed to...which is shitty music. If they ever had the opportunity to hear some of the great music that's being made, they'd be buying that instead.

This is a great point. You would think with the Internet today bands would be discovered fairly easily. I've tried to make a similar point in the past in some threads. ALOT of people actually like Aldean, Bryan, etc. Its actually harder than you think for record label execs to push music down people's throats. If records don't sell, that artist is done. Granted radio play usually equals record sales but this is not always the case. Especially today.

so we are going to pick on his lyrics that millions of people relate to? i'll pick on one of the boards favorites, passion pit. here are the lyrics for sleepyhead:
that shite is so deep bro. musical geniuses. ::sarcasm::
maybe yall are the ones who listen to shitty music and are just being music snobs.

quote:
And everything is going to the beat
And everything is going to the beat
And everything is going
And you said, it was like fire around the brim
Burning solid, burning thin the burning rim
Like stars burning holes right through the dark
Flicking fire like saltwater into my eyes
You were one inch from the edge of this bed
I dragged you back a sleepyhead, sleepyhead
They couldn't think of something to say the day you burst
With all their lions, with all their might and all their thirst
They crowd your bedroom like some thoughts wearing thin
Against the walls, against your rules, against your skin
My beard grew down to the floor and out through the doors
Of your eyes, begonia skies like a sleepyhead, sleepyhead
that shite is so deep bro. musical geniuses. ::sarcasm::
maybe yall are the ones who listen to shitty music and are just being music snobs.

a good voice, toe tappin' rhythm, and lyrics people don't have to decipher likes its fricking Shakespeare goes a loooooong way.

I'm not sure why you responded to me...I haven't been dissecting anyone's lyrics
And there are plenty of solid, toe-tapping beats with fun lyrics to be found in country music...from bands who don't cater to the lowest common denominator.
There's a lot of really good music out there...it's my personal preference to spend my money on the people who are actually making it.
You don't have to agree with me. The OP's question was about why Aldean gets so much hate. I answered him. You are certainly entitled to your opinion as much as I am entitled to mine
