Damnit man! I have been curbing the urge to build another bass (that I don’t need) and then you throw something like this out there.

Good question. I've been bad the past couple of years, Although I haven't bought a guitar in several months.

Current inventory:

2 Fender strats
D'Angelico Semi-hollow body
fender telecaster
Fender modern player telecaster
PRS SE
PRS SE Custom 24
LTD from the 90s
EPI Plus Top Pro Les Paul
Taylor 214 CE acoustic
Seagull S6 acoustic.
80's Tokai bass that I made fretless several years ago.

I've bought and sold several the last few years.

Cause you think you'll sound better, but it was(n't) in the fingers the whole time.

I do think this is right to an extent, but with me playing both through the same amp, I’ll be damned if I can make a Precision bass sound like a Jazz bass.

Chasing tone is like doing heroine.

And the subtle vanilla smell that emanates from my SG case makes me happy absolutely instantly no matter what

Even with glue on finger tips you'll never sound like James Taylor on a spruce top, even if Adirondack, Engleman, or European.

And while not an electric player, I still know a Stratocaster sounds different than a Telecaster and a Les Paul even more so; and still there's those hollow bodies, jazz, etc.

Even in acoustics just with overtones Rosewood will turn heads, and yet there's differences in Brazilian, to East Indian, to Honduran. Same even with mahogany species. And the list goes on forever with various mixes of tops and backs. Some are scooped in the middle, with dynamic ranges to either side, some are middle of the road woody in midrange, and other's known for being particularly bright, bassy, or metallic.

And none of this touches on the builder, brand, or grade of materials used -vs- time -vs- technology that went into each guitar's inception. Nor how even the same model can be set up and tuned for a style, sound, or key. It's like a deaf man finally hearing a bird sing and then realizing oh there's so many.

It's a Charvel Pro Mod So-Cal.

In fanboy terms, it's Jake E Lee's guitar from Bark at the Moon.

Always chasing tone.
Rooms frustrate me the most and inadvertently cause GAS. I can play one week and my bass tone sounds better than any tone ever. Next week, with no equipment or setting changes in a different room, and it’s garbage.

I was considering the red one used (the newer models don't come in red).

They still hold good value, but I went with new to be safe. Love it so far.

I love the recent Ensenada-made Charvels. I handpicked this one for my wife. Put me on a desert island with this one guitar and I'd be fine for life. Incredible specimen.

Damn, that is nice. Where did you find that?

I was looking at Charvels for a while and don't recall seeing that color.

I bought it at the annual Dallas vintage guitar show four years ago IIRC.
