People hate them because they were played so much and Scott Stapp acted like Johnny Manziel does today. Mark Tremonti is easily one of the best guitarists in the world today, and it shows in his songs in Alterbridge.
I agree he is a great guitarist, and SS is a douche

Creed's lyrics were probably one of the best in combining catchiness and genius at the same time at least at the time they were created.
Creed's lyrics ar some of the worst. Although I do admit to jamming out to them in middle school

It's because they, along with Nickleback, basically produced the exact same sound on every record. I was a fan of creed through their first two albums, but by the third album, it was sounding like the first album again. I don't remember which songs it was, but there are 2 creed songs that the music is almost identical. I'll do some research and see if I can find them
and i think by the third not only was it a bit recycled, it simply wasnt as good. it didnt take a step up ever. while tremonti got better, i think stapp was falling enough to offset the gains as a band.
i saw them touring on that first album in a small club setting before they got huge and it was a really memorable, good show. saw them again once big, but before the meltdown and though less impressed musically, purely on an entertainment level still enjoyed it.
i wouldnt categorize myself as a huge creed fan but i think at their peak (musically, not commercially) they were better than many give credit for.

and there you have it.
just like everything else played on mainstream-top 40 radio, it is cheesy, unoriginal, overproduced crap, made for teenagers and pre-teens that need their music spoon-fed to them.

Music fans, if a band sounds the same by their 3rd album then they are getting stale, if they sound different by then, they sold out

When your music sounds the same you have a very low douchebag threshold.
You start being too much of a douche and your music is going to become a punch line.

one might simply say its hard to create consistently good music over an extended period.

I have to correct you there Spaulding. Creed never "marketed" themselves as a Christian rock band. That was strictly the press doing that. True, Scott Stapp is a Christian and he wrote lyrics that reflected his Christian beliefs and values, but the rest of the band didn't really share the same beliefs he did. He was the primary song-writer, so his beliefs were represented in the band's lyrics. If Creed had had another singer, they probably never would have been labeled a "Christian" band because of Scott Stapp's faith and lyrics.
As far as his addictions and behavior, Scott had a lot of personal demons that he struggled with, including a childhood that included his biological father abandoning him and his family, and then a step-father who routinely abused him in the name of religion. As far as the drugs go, a lot of that was due to the "rock docs" that would pump him up full of different kinds of medical drugs to get him over an illness or ailment so he could continue to perform and record. He did admit that he had an alcohol problem and attended rehab several times. He now seems to be over all of that.
I know all of this because I just read his biography, it was a really good book. So before you criticize the guy Spaulding, do some research first.

I knew all that going into what I posted...Same old song and dance.
He knew his demons the whole time he was selling himself as a Christian rocker. He also knew marketing his band as a Christian rock band would sell records.
It's like when the super pious Christian pastor gets caught blowing a gay meth head in a hotel in Denver. Hypocritical, ya see

bro, creed is not worth bothering to write that much of a response for. go out and find some real music, creed is garbage.

this thread is very cringe worthy

Lol trust me trillhog, I do enjoy lots of different types of music, and some of my all-time favorite bands are considered some of the best- Lynyrd Skynyrd, Guns N' Roses, Killswitch Engage, Pantera, Metallica, Sevendust, Journey, Genesis/Phil Collins, Merle Haggard, George Jones, etc., just to name a few off the top of my head. I'm not really a die-hard fan of Creed, I just feel that they have some pretty good songs that are catchy and melodic. From what I can tell, they aren't a garbage band, that's really just your opinion. And really dude, come on, if they were truly garbage and sucked, do you think they would have sold millions of records and sell out all their shows? Obviously there are a lot of people who don't think they suck.

And i'm sure groups like One Direction have also. Majority of people have terrible taste in music.

And Mcdonald's has the best food, too. Millions of sales, more than that local burger shackike. Clearly it's popularity shows that McDonald's is the highest form of culinary perfection.
