Rondo Hatton is very active. They play at Phil Brady's and Curbside Burgers. They also have at least 3 cd's out there of original surf music. They get regular airplay on Bill Boelens show Back Down The Bayou on WHYR on Sunday nights. Some cuts:

Storm Surge
Chiquahuac Point
Riding The Coffin

The Circuit Breakers was a Baton Rouge-based blues band with some original music. Leader Bruce Lamb moved to Austin in 1992 but returned to BR a couple of years ago. No telling if this will be only a reunion or a reformation. We shall see...

Particle devotion broke up because their front man moved to Philadelphia.

Agreed. I was really bummed when I tried to book them for a show only to find that out.

Will date myself- Zaemon. Guys were excellent musicians. And they still play 2-3 shows a year so they are at least semi-active.

It appears that EVERYBODY in Baton Rouge wants to listen to a cover band. Or a swamp pop band. Nobody likes original music.

I've seen Anders Osborne a few times and always liked his sound and presence.

In the Lafayette area, my favorite is Lost Bayou Ramblers at the local festivals (also Roddie Romero, Feufollet).

***I don't keep up with all of the local bands there but these are a couple that stood out over the years.

Yes- Rick actually plays with Phat Hat on a regular basis.

Of the 4 guys in Zaemon- 2 are doctors, one is VP of an internationally known and respected company, and one owns a successful local business. They turned out pretty good for a bunch of long haired rockstar wannabes. And I use that word with all the respect in the world.

Brent Cobb grew up about a mile from me. We've been good friends most of our lives. So I'd say him

Favorite Shreveport bands:
Shayliff (alt-Rock)
JuneJuly (alt-Rock)
Hwy Lions (Rock & roll - straight out of the 70s vibe)
Logan & the Legendaries (college rock/90s rock vibe)

All are very good at what they do. I’m not much of an alt-Rock fan, but Shayliff and JuneJuly are great live bands, and they do it very well.

Hwy Lions is fronted by Daniel Goodwill, who’s really an amazing lyricist, especially the stuff he’s just putting out now.

Logan & the Legendaries have a Matchbox 20 meets 1990s DMB sound. For me, it’s great party music.

Thou is my favorite local BR band. I saw them open for Sleep last year and they killed it. Their latest album Magus crushes.

Boudain is a good doom metal band out of Monroe. Forming the Void is another good local metal band.

Lots of good local metal being created right now.
