it's not the same thing, anybody can rhyme if you got the time, but to rap is to tell a story to take you there, to set imagery... you don't get it
Dude, smh. Wow.
And master p and silk are "rappers" and krs is a "rhymer". Again, just wow.

seems to me that you're saying that the rolling stones weren't rock but Metallica/pantera/etc. is...
Don't forget where the music came from. Nas changed the game in the 90's when rap was still growing and developing.
Em while badass is one of the top dogs when rap has peaked and is now declining

I dont know why this discussion has gone on for five pages, the answer is Nas and it's really not even close.
Eminem is a phenomenal artist and when he tries, he's one of the best in the biz. But the fact that he puts out shite like "Go Crazy" and "arse Like That" and some of this garbage with D-12 just lowers his status to some degree

I like NAS, I think he's legendary, i said that i think he'll be around in history as more respected than Eminem in the end.

Was awesome and had a lot of good songs. Eminem overshadows them, but people often miss their brilliance.
Eminem does have some trash songs though. Bound to happen when you have released as many albums as him (like 10?) and are on as many different tracks as he has been. I'm sure Nas has released some shite as well.

Well, people will talk about Eminem for years because he dramatically changed the paradigm. If we're realistic, that has less to do with skill and more to do with color. Nas definitely contributed more to the game; Em just made us crackers theoretically viable rappers. Nas won't be remembered 50 years from now, but he no doubt contributed more to the sound and style of hip-hop.

meh, game recognizes game , if he couldn't rap he'd been laughed out of the game. he just happens to be the first white rapper that could really rap and wasn't just a gimmick.

i don't see how eminem changed anything. his killing people and drugs shite got old quick for me.

Um Illmatic has been out damn near twenty years and is still listened to heavily today. So yeah, Nas will most definitely be remembered 50 yrs from now.

i appreciate your passion, but the chronic, doggstyle, ghetto dope, coming out hard, cocktails, ready to die, E 1999 eternal, just a few off the top of my head that are more legit than illmatic,

Ready to Die and The Chronic are the only ones in the same ballpark. I do love Ghetto D though. Reminds of me of riding on the bus to my high school basketball games. Everyone on the bus had that cd in their player.
