Pete Yorn had an awesome first two albums but everything after was pretty terrible.

Great track on the Spiderman soundtrack.

Jump Little Children, good call. Still have their EP w Opium and Easter Parade.

Blind Melon.

So many great tracks in their short career, but listening to both of their full length albums, it's hard to believe they aren't more widely revered.

Going back aways, but, Angel, a progressive rock band of the mid to late 70's, put out five killer studio albums and a live album before disbanding, right before the advent of MTV, which they were made for.

Maybe Spoon, but they seem to have gained a reasonable amount of popularity.

I almost listed Hum. One of the best bands of the 90s.

So true. I still spin their stuff and wonder how the hell they aren't highly regarded. Incredible stuff.

Unified Theory was a later project of the bassist and guitarist, and their one record was top 5 album the year it came out if not the best. The singer for that sounded like a cross of Jeff Buckley and Shanon Hoon.

Check them out here. It's a shame they only had one record.

I'll start here. Anyone that likes music should like at least some of Fight Songs. Hell, that album is better than most band's greatest hits.

The Connells - just so many great songs.

Almost posted them. '74-'75 is one of my alltime fave "nostalgia" songs.

As long as we're talking regionally, more or less - Cowboy Mouth. I always assumed they were very popular... Then I moved away from Louisiana.

I listed The Blasters, Long Ryders, Beat Farmers, and Old '97s as well.
All of these acts put on great live shows in small venues. But I don't think any of them would have been appealing in a large venue. I saw the Beat Farmers on television a few times, and they were not impressive when they just played their music without any of the stage antics or audience participation that you got in small to midsize clubs. Their studio albums also lacked the spark of their live performances, and I can understand why they wouldn't have resonated with a larger audience.
