Someone once asked Hendrix how it felt to be the greatest guitar player in the world. He replied, "I wouldn't know. Go ask Rory Gallagher." LINK

I’m not seeing a link to Hendrix saying what you said he said.
I saw Rory open for Rush at the first concert I ever attended in 1982. Never saw him before or since. Can’t say I was impressed.

fro Wikipedia:
Many modern day musicians, including The Edge from U2,[54] Slash of Guns N' Roses,[55] Johnny Marr of the Smiths,[56] Davy Knowles,[57] Janick Gers of Iron Maiden,[58] Alex Lifeson of Rush,[59] James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers,[60] Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest,[61] Vivian Campbell of Def Leppard,[62] Gary Moore,[63] and Joe Bonamassa,[11][64] cite Gallagher as an inspiration in their formative musical years.
Brian May, lead guitarist of Queen, relates: "so these couple of kids come up, who's me and my mate, and say 'How do you get your sound Mr Gallagher?' and he sits and tells us. So I owe Rory Gallagher my sound."[65] The sound to which May refers consists of a Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster in combination with a Vox AC30 amplifier.[66] In 2010, Gallagher was ranked No. 42 on Gibson.com's List of their Top 50 Guitarists of All Time.[67] Gallagher was also listed on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, at 57th place.[68]
In April 2014, at the time of the auction of Gallagher's Patrick Eggle 'JS Berlin Legend' guitar, the BBC noted: "Eric Clapton credited him with ‘getting me back into the blues’. The Rolling Stones wanted him to replace Mick Taylor, and when Jimi Hendrix was asked how it felt to be the world's greatest guitarist, he is reported to have said: ‘I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher’"[46]

I saw Rory in 1972 at the PMAC, he was the opener for Freddie King and then Rod Stewart & Faces {feat. Ron Wood}
Been a huge Rory fan ever since.

Overnight Bag has one of the best outros ever. I always turn it up during the fadeout to keep it going.

Rory was the man. He was friends with Slash and you can hear it in Slash's playing. Slash said Rory was really sweet and fun. Too bad he died so young and hardly anyone knows about him. I met a dude whose band is named Taste Bud as a tribute to Rory and weed. Taste played at Woodstock, I think.
My favorites are Bad Penny and a Million Miles away and I can play both but obviously not as good as Rory. Dude was unreal.

I’m a big fan. I really went on a deep dive of his catalog in 2020.
