A rock band that continues to make great music. They transcend generations and eras, but manages to maintain their core sound without selling out. To me, that would qualify them among to be among the greats.

I don't even like RHCP, but this is a snoozer of a troll.

With Frusciante? Top 30.
Without Frusciante? Honorable mention.

I used to be obsessed with them when I was in high school. Now I can't stomach them anymore. They have their moments I guess. Frusciante is very talented. Flee is a lot better than your average rock bassist. He gets talked up a bit too much by some though.
I don't know. I think there is something bland and shallow about their overall image. Maybe they are too poppy for me to take seriously anymore. Or it might be Kiedis' cheesiness.

Agree - innovators not imitators.

They're not as good as Oingo Boingo.

Top 10 for me. I have their new album, first full album I've bought in a while. It is very good.

Damn dude. Didn't know we had a legit music industry guy here who has sat in on all RHCP's album recordings with Frusciante!
I know you aren't trying to sound arrogant, but what you just said is the epitome of arrogance. There is absolutely no way for you to prove this and it doesn't even matter in the end. If you don't like Johns style and approach to playing and songwriting, just say that! Don't say that you know he doesn't try because that is just asinine.
I won't deny that I am a huge JF fan. I think he's one of the best guitarist / songwriters to come out of the last 30 years. But I can understand why some people don't care for his stuff. But it makes no sense to say that the man who put out 6 quality solo albums in one year is lazy.

Good question. Their early stuff was great. After the turn of the 21st Century they just stopped doing it for me.
The Foo Fighters references in this thread are fitting--I like the Foo Fighters, but don't think they're any sort of trailblazers. they get blasted for pumping out sterile, radio friendly rock tunes. That's exactly what the Chili Peppers have done for the better part of the past two decades.

Solo stuff = not rhcp
Not lazy, a lot of time band politics or whatever may be, snuff out a person's full potential on an album.

You greatly underestimate John Frusciante. Look at their material with and without him.

Just explain what you meant and how you came to the conclusion that you do warming up than Frusciante does on a whole RHCP album. You are implying that he made a ton of mistakes / goofs with his playing on the albums. Give me an example.
Posted on 10/26/16 at 2:32 pm to SEClint
If you think that crap is music, then you are in position to judge the RHCP.
Music is not about skill and difficulty. It is about making quality sounds and rhythms.
I like virtually all types of music, but speed/death metal and that type is headache inducing.

Literally one I use to stretch my hand and tune my timing. In production, I have to record the rhythm and lead. Once again, not saying the dude "sucks". Its just not my thing.
Maybe I misunderstood you. Are you saying that you play more notes warming up than frusciante does on a whole album?
Like Bjorn said, quality (which is subjective) over quantity (not subjective). I don't get your point by bringing this up.
