Where do you rank Jeff Tweedy as a songwriter

I might not throw him up there with Dylan or Lennon, but the dude writes some amazing songs.
Every Wilco album is always rock solid with moments of brilliance, imo of course.I can always throw any CD on and let it roll over 2 or 3 times before I even notice.

quote:
The cash machine is blue and green
For a hundred in twenties and a small service fee I
could spend three dollars and sixty-three cents
On Diet Coca-Cola and unlit cigarettes
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a frick How hot and sorrowful, this machine begs for luck
All my lies are always wishes
I know I would die if I could come back new
I want a good life with a nose for things
The fresh wind and bright sky to enjoy my suffering
A hole without a key if I break my tongue
Oh, speaking of tomorrow, how will it ever come?
All my lies are always wishes
I know I would die if I could come back new
I'm down on my hands and knees
Every time a doorbell rings I shake like a toothache
When I hear myself sing
All my lies are only wishes
I know I would die if I could come back new
I would like to salute
The ashes of American flags
And all the fallen leaves
Filling up shopping bags

Wilco will go down as one of the best American bands of all time. They are amazing!

I don't know where I would rank him, but he is definitely great. Today, is actually the 10 year anniversary of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

Wilco is easily the most overrated band of the last 20 years.

One of the best writing today. All-time? Probably Top 30 or so.

I'm obviously a big fan.
It appears as though his best lyrics have come and gone, but there is no shame in that.
The stretch run of Being There>Summerteeth>YHF is so freaking good, it's impossible to maintain that level of songwriting.

I'll definitely be picking up the Mermaid box that released a few days ago. What a hell of a project for those guys to take on.
I know its played out a bit,but I don't see how anybody could jam California Stars in the car and not blare that shite.would just be damn unamerican.

While the lyrics may not be as good, musically i think they are WAY better now since nels is in the band.

I'll be there, too, and it will be my first Wilco show.
I missed them in New Orleans at Tips a couple of years ago, and have been waiting for them to come back... saw they will be in Jackson on a Saturday in May & bought tickets early! Can't wait!

I think very highly of Jeff Tweedy. So needless to say I think he is currently the best right now. To be able to release new material every 2 or so years and it be solid material is pretty amazing.
I also think Wilco's drummer, Glenn Kotche, doesn't get enough recognition.

I'll be in the lower balcony, center (wife doesn't like to be on the floor... small sacrifice, but still got good seats in what looks like a smaller venue).
Added bonus: got a hotel room within walking distance, so I'm really looking forward to the show.
