It's one of my top five favorite REM songs. Peter Buck cut loose on that one. It was a break from the traditional REM sound.

Were you the guy sitting on their IRS catalog as the holy grail and felt you had to be disappointed about a major signing? Document has some great songs.

Definitely top 3 REM song for me

I enjoy Revolution. Recorded during the Monster sessions but not used; used on Batman and Robin soundtrack
Revolution

There's something going on that not quite riiiiiiiiii-te

King of Birds is another gem that is a song that you could put on any of their other previous albums and it would fit.

IMO REM's weakest albums were Fables, Document and Out of Time, but each time, they came back with a really strong response. Three of my favorites were Lifes's Rich Pageant, Green and Automatic For the People.

There are only a couple of songs on the album that I don’t like a lot. Just a case of different tastes.

Nothing wrong with Peter Buck cutting loose..Driver 8's 12 string Rickenbacker sound is one of the greatest all time, along with The Church's 'Reptile', Plimsouls 'Million Miles Away', Tom Petty's 'American Girl', and the entire Byrds catalogue.

Naw, Disturbance at the Heron House is good and Oddfellows local is ok and thats about it. Document is the album where you heard REM run out of ideas. It happens to all bands at some point and REM had a longer run of good albums than most.

There's no accounting for taste.

I think early REM was great for its time but later stuff was way to commercial for my taste...

That and the song immediately following it Find the River are two of my favorites. (From my favorite "later" album of theirs--Automatic for the People.

Kenneth never appealed to me much, sorry.

They are two bands - Pre-Document, and Post-Life's Rich Pageant.

I kind of fell away from REM when Berry left after "New Adventures in Hi-Fi."
I liked the earlier stuff as well.
