Their run of albums through Good News is tough to beat IMO. But since then, the've put out 2 albums in 12 years that were pretty forgettable. It looks like they are coming out with a new album and the new single, Poison the Well, dropped today. It sounds like pretty much more of the same. I don't feel like linking it because it's not even worth sharing.

Have they lost "it"? Every album through Good News was creative and innovative IMO. They developed their "sound" and were putting out interesting stuff. It seems they are just sort of phoning it in now. It's such a shame.

idk but I mean they've been around for like 25 years, there are very few artists that are still pumping out great stuff ~25 years after their debut

Maybe I'm just getting old. I really tried to like it. Gave it several listens. But just didn't have any desire to listen again.

I liked We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank a lot, as much as Good News even. And their 2009 EP had some good tracks, especially Whale Song. I didn’t love the last album. They are definitely post peak, happens to pretty much all great bands though. Hard to maintain that level of greatness.

With the exception of a few songs, they lost me after M&A.

To be honest, I did too when it came out. I listened to it pretty often but I kind of wore it out after a few months. The songs haven't aged all that well for me I guess, because I don't remember the last time I ever gave it a spin. It's definitely better than the last release.

Ya I enjoyed their last album too. I'll have to go find the new single and check it out. They're touring with the Black Keys later this year so I was wondering if some new music was coming.

Good set right there. Real similar to when I saw them at the amp last year. You always forget that they are loud as frick.

I’ve not cared for them since Good News. Their prior stuff is some of my favorites. They lost the melancholic west turning into suburbia feel to it and turned more towards pop and when they did they lost the magic.

Yep when I saw em in Shreveport they opened with that. Fantastic song.

Long Drive, Lonesome Crowded West, and Moon & Antarctica are all absolutely solid albums. Building Nothing out of Something also. I bought my son a vinyl of The Moon and Antarctica last Christmas. And I think Modest Mouse probably shaped the direction of my taste in music more than any other band back in high school.

I just don’t care for the direction they went starting with Good News.

I'm still deaf from their HOB show in NOLA back in 2007.

Nearly 2.5 hours, which was a nice long set, but man the feedback on the guitars was brutal that night and they sound guys didn't fix it. My brother and I almost left a few times but didn't because we waited so long to see them live.

My brother ended up going back again and saw them a year or so later. The feedback issue was fixed and it was a great show, but I missed that one.

I saw that they are going on tour with the Black Keys. Should be a good show.
