Alternative Rock, specifically early 2000s/2010s, the stuff I was listening to in my early career commutes (and therefor the most). Suppose I can thank 107.7 the X in Birmingham for that.

I rarely listen to anything anymore, I am always working on my own stuff.
Even when I don't have my guitar in my hand, working on a piece of equipment or whatever, I'm thinking about lyrics and how I can say something in a better way. Driving down the road by myself, I never turn any music on. It seems that is when I write my best lines.
If my daughter is with me, there is a local station I'll put on, that emulates an early 70s AM station and might play any damn thing, no matter the genre.
I really like that.

I only play it when the wind's getting up, or it's getting late.

This is a good question and honestly I'm hard pressed to say. I usually keep it on shuffle so whatever genre is most represented in my library. Which is a mixture of all sorts of things: classic rock, prog rock, jazz, funk, bluegrass, blues, jam band, 90's alt rock, 80's new wave and whatever genre Jeff Beck is. No Taylor Swift though. If I just want to put on an album and listen all the way through, it's usually something like Gov't Mule, Mark Knopfler or TTB.
