Maybe pop? I don't know.
You had a run there with Britney, christina, BSB, nsync, 98 degrees, etc that took the world by storm for a while but it kinda fizzled out.
I guess I don't think there is a MAJOR movement (like ushered in by the beatles, or disco, or hard rock, or grunge) that will really leave a lasting mark. I also have no idea what I'm talking about so who knows.

Music has been changed by internet and media sources for this generation. Not a musician

I agree with you and at the same I feel bad for this generation. They don't know good music.

Sorry, Kobane: city in Syria near the Turkish border where the focus of ISIS has been eliminating Kurdish populations.
Cobain: The last name of the late singer of the American Grunge/rock band Nirvana.
I apologize for my poor spelling and lack of f&%ks givin;, broseph.

How did you come about grasping such a profound knowledge of music?
Posted on 4/1/15 at 3:47 pm to mizzoukills
Probably the Americana stuff. Everything has gotten a bit folky.

Really?

certain bands or musical movements have singlehandedly changed music
GNR? really?
Other than being a popular rock band that the sportos, motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads all listened too, I just don't see them shifting music the way those others did.

Off top of my head just to throw out some names... Outkast and Radiohead.
EDM's movement could certainly describe the time. Although hip-hop might win that argument.

When I was in college, I was locked in a room for 9 months, with nothing but water, almonds, and the music of the great poets of their day. Nickelback, Blake Shelton, Shinedown, Staind, Creed, Switchfoot, et al. At first, I viewed it as a torture. I cursed God and man for resigning me to such a fate. I raged at the world. I raged night and day for 3 months, until all of the anger had been purged from me. I wept for 40 days and 40 nights, until all tears had been purged from me. Then, only then, did I achieve enlightenment. Through all of the songs about whisky, beer, trucks, fighting, heroes, bad girlfriends, and prisons of one's own creation, there was truth. I was the truth and the truth was in me. I now see the world for what it truly is, the mysteries of the universe are no more hidden to me than the glowing bar signs in the windows of 3rd Street pubs. Only then, could I truly learn how to open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur.

Guns N Roses didn't change music as much as they were the epitome of their genre. They didn't start a new genre; they were its epitaph. In my opinion, Kiss was a much more influential band because it was their sound, and more importantly their look, that paved the way for 80's hair metal and Glam rock.
