It's gotta be some combination of Foo Fighters, Radiohead, and Coldplay if you're going the band route.

way, way too niche

I personally think they suck but I can see the age range as a whole being big favorites, but not as much as RHCP I don't think

Foo Fighters

also a good choice but I still don't think they have the broad appeal of RHCP.

I honestly can't think of any demographic from 20-33 (boys, girls, black, white, asian, etc whatever) that would by and large as a whole really dislike RHCP. Sure foo is a mega hit with white dudes, well white people in general, but I don't see them beating out rhcp in the other categories.

This has probably already been mentioned, but there won’t ever be another band that makes as much of an impact as they did. It’s not because they are talented above and beyond anybody else, but it’s because access to music is no where near as isolated as it was during the 60s-70s.

Unless you force people to listen to the same bands in the samegenre, as they essentially were back then, people will find interests elsewhere. Recent generations are far too diverse to have as large of a following as the Stones or Beatles.

It is kind of a dumb argument that older generations make because no only was it less diverse, they made popular music using very simple song structure. If someone did that now, they would be accused of a rip-off. Can’t play both sides of the fence and demand innovation while refusing to accept it.

Beyonce

Not a band, but she is the millennial's most popular artist. Taylor Swift might top her but i'd still say Beyonce.

Kids worship those two.

yes many do, but that's not the topic. The question posed in the OP leads me to think it is 1)a wide, massively broad appeal across all listening audiences, and 2)staying power that people will still be listening to and enjoying after the years.

Nobody is going to still be listening to their beyonce CDs 10 years from now.

The Beatles were worshiped, not just bc of their music. I mentioned in my post that I wasnt talking about a band but just based off celebrity, Beyonce is worshiped and its the same with Taylor Swift just a different demographic.

Not true at all. 10 years from now Beyonce will basically be an icon and Taylor Swift will be at an age where she is still relevant. She could easily go back to country 10 years from now and immediately be the most popular country artist.

Beyonce has been around for nearly 20 years already. Its safe to say she has staying power.

If that's the case, nirvana has to be up there. Teens today still get into the music. Huge effect on music for the time..and nevermind still tops lists.

I’m just talking about mainstream appeal, popularity, and longevity.

Radiohead has been able to headline festivals for like 15 years now and they’re still a massive pull.

I thought about choosing RHCP as well. It was my first thought actually, I can’t think of why I talked myself out of it.

Based on the responses in here, the answer is clear.....music has changed to the point where they'll be no more legends. There will only be people/bands that were popular a little longer than others, but none that deserve to be remembered or revered 20 years later.

RHCP will be immortal.

Im a millennial (32), and im a RHCP fan, not as much as I used to be but i've seen them in concert a few times. That being said, if that is the /thread answer, then we dont have a Beattles/Stones band for this generation. A number of pop and rap artist will be more memorable than them. Not that I agree, but that's the truth.

This board won't agree but this is absolutely the closest thing this generation has. They always made the music they wanted instead of the same old shite and inspired many different bands to come after.

RHCP have been around for over 30 years. People don't just forget a band like that. Pop and especially rap acts tend to have a short shelf life.

RHCP were popular before most millennials were even born. How can they be claimed by millennials?

Honestly, I've been going to shows my entire life and I don't know a single person who is a huge RHCP fan. Nobody dislikes them, but I think I speak for a lot of my friends with "meh" these days. They're being put in this category because they're still relevant and span multiple decades. In other words, by default. I think Foo Fighters are somewhat similar.

It's not popular, but I'd probably vote for Coldplay.
