Weird Al - 2 Ticket Requirement per Ticketmaster

I’ve got two tickets for tomorrow’s show for me and my son. He’s pumped and looking forward to it. My wife finds out she needs to work late that night, so now I need to bring my daughter with us as well. No problem, she’s 7, but has a good sense of humor. She’ll enjoy it.
It’s not close to selling out. The entire row behind our seats are available. I go to buy the seat directly behind them (two kids up front, I’d sit behind them) when I get hit with a message from Ticketmaster saying that I’m required to buy tickets in multiples of 2. No single tickets can be sold.
What the hell is this?! I’ve never heard of this policy ever before. I assume it’s in an effort to drive up sales, but I have to assume it’s doing the exact opposite. No one can to solo to the show? What if a group of 3 or 5 want to go?
Someone help me make sense of this.

I think they were doing a two for $80 sale but you had to get two to get that price. Maybe that's what you saw.

they don’t want to leave stranded singles in a row. Look for another row or another single that doesn’t do that. It’s standard policy

I did that. And on a computer (boss). I think the 2 for $80 deal is likely what’s going on. I clicked around other seats and kept getting the same message, but I only stayed in the cheap seats. Didn’t try anything lower cause I knew we weren’t sitting there.
Still kinda annoying. I called the box office, they said they’d hold the seat for me and I can buy it from them before the show.

No it is not. Ticketmaster is the product of cronyism due to their exclusive deals with government owned venues, which just so happens to be every large venue.

I think that’s what it is too. Ticketmaster is running a similar two-fer special for Journey.

Umm no.
It is usually the event space not wanting open seats. It is their choice to do this. You buy a single middle seat, no one purchases the singles next to you, two open seats now.
And the government is why Ticketmaster is a monopoly. They allowed the live nation and Ticketmaster merger if they just complied with a few things. This happened like 15+ years ago.

There's still a bunch of tickets for $45.. and closer to the event (try at like 4 or 5 pm today), it's possible they will get dropped to $30

Never use ticketmaster or any venue's ticket vendor if it's close to the show and it isn't sold out on ticketmaster's website. The prices on the third party sites will adjust to demand and you'll pay well below face value.
ETA: Now that I think about it, Ticketmaster does resale too now...but I'm not sure how it works vs their face value tickets that haven't sold.
I saw Weird Al last night and I was in the same situation as you. I waited till just after lunch and tickets in the $100 section (face value) near where I already had a pair (gifted to me) were only $50-60. So I grabbed a single ticket.
Show was awesome by the way. Your son will love it. Daughter too.

I've gotten $300 tickets for $100 day of on Ticketmaster, you can try third party sellers, it won't hurt - but Ticketmaster definitely does dynamic prices especially a show like this that isn't close to sold out.. but tickets right now are cheaper on Ticketmaster than stubhub and seatgeek at the moment
