I'm pretty sure the OP meant wearing a band tee to that band's concert (wearing a metallica shirt at a metallica show). I think it's pretty lame to do that. I have worn plenty of band tees in my day (and still do occasionally), it is just cooler to wear a different band tee to a concert than the one you are seeing. JMO.

or what about the people who listen to the band AFTER the show in the parking lot with the stereo turned up waaaay too loud?

I guess I find the lack of self awareness funny
i've seen touring bands comment on fans who wear the shirts of the band they are there to see. pretty funny conversations.

I myself have never seen anything wrong with it other than that one PCU clip, and to be honest, I don't know what Piven is trying to imply when he says that line. Why does a band sell shirts other than to be worn?

I don't really care if you do or not. But it is a fact that he at least used to be I'm assuming they're still together. Why he doesn't want to tell y'all who he plays for or show y'all some tracks I don't know but he could prove it if he wanted.
