You tell us

Van Morrison at Pacific High Studios, Marin CA (September 5, 1971)

Great quality broadcast of a show from Van's greatest period. He even does a great cover of a song I've never especially liked (Dylan's "Just Like A Woman") as well as reworking the Them classic "Friday's Child". A must for the Van fan, and a decent starting point for newbs.

Setlist:

Set 1
1. Into the Mystic
2. I've Been Working @5:40
3. Fridays Child @11:42
4. Hound Dog @17:16
5. Ballerina @20:12
6. Tupelo Honey @28:56
7. Wild Night @35:02
8. Just Like a Woman @39:36
9. Moonshine Whiskey @47:13

Set 2
1. Dead or Alive @54:46
2. You're My Woman @59:57
3. These Dreams of You @01:05:45
4. Domino @01:09:04
5. Call Me Up in Dreamland @01:14:55
6. Blue Money @01:18:21
7. Bring It On Home @01:22:16

"I Believe To My Soul" -- Brilliant cover of the Ray Charles song. The strings-horn arrangement on this is incredible.

Video of a performance a few months later -- audio quality is not as good

That's the first time I have ever heard that cover, and you are exactly right. He really does a great job and makes the points more clear, instead of just seemingly rambling.

You, know your shite about music Kafka. Salute you bro.
I am damn curious how you have learned so much.
Do you play?

That's okay. I first really dove into his stuff in college (in the 80's) and have been there ever since. Found a woman who loved him too and we dance to his stuff at our wedding. Still listen regularly.

Meanwhile, most of my friends are where you were--only the hits.

You can rarely go wrong with any of his albums--old or new. Here's my faves:

--Moondance
--Avalon Sunset
--Enlightenment
--Tupelo Honey

Those are 70's/80's albums. Don't neglect his later stuff though. He's been very prolific in the 2000's, so much so that it's hard to keep up.

Linked above is another great live performance from 1980. The whole concert is rocking.

That song reminds me of just going fishing with my friends when I was a kid. We would have our dogs with us, and our Zebco rods and reels. We would hit all the good spots in the creeks, catch the hell out of some bream. Our dogs would fight, then we would fight each other, taking up for our dogs. Get up the next day, and do it all over again.

Not that surprising these days. Glad he found it. It's outside of The Beam.

Don't forget Into The Music. Also, It's Too Late To Stop Now is one of the best live albums ever. For a long time it was unavailable for digital download so it gets overlooked a lot.
