Very nice. Thanks. Appreciate it.
Nice take on Just Like A Woman. Plenty of good listening. Sitting up in bed listening to it now with the headphones so Mrs. M. can get some shuteye.

I've seen him several times, and he's hit or miss live. As much as I love his music I tell folks attending the concerts with me to not expect his best or even to hear any of their favorite songs. He swings with whatever he's feeling at the time. I've even seen him keep his back to the audience for extended periods of time.

I wasn’t impressed with him at Jazz Fest, and I’m a big Van fan.

Cleaning windows is one of my favorites.

many self-proclaimed "big Van" fans are typically pretty darn disappointed with him on stage, he's just not that great in sticking to original sound that you'd know and often is just a dick on stage, not a crowd pleaser in any way.
That said, Best of VM disc is gold, start to finish. Interestingly enough in interviews he's noted how much he dislikes Brown Eyed Girl, just didn't think it was very good work of his at all. Truly though, he's got much better stuff beyond that one tune so many know.

This is the general understanding of him, but the truth is that he's a nice guy who hates being in the spotlight. Yes that's odd for one who chose this career path, but it's his love of music that drove him this way and not his desire for fame.
I worked for the record label back in the late 90's when he released his Back On Top album. We had a conference call prior to the release, and management were explaining how shy he is and that he's a genuine recluse. They said he's not the monster that everyone thinks he is, but that he's just really misunderstood. When he got on the conference call with us, he was quiet and awkward. It was a pretty cool experience though overall, and I came away with a different impression of him as a result.
As for his best albums, Hard Nose The Highway is probably my favorite. It is a must listen to. VM is an absolute legend who does not get talked about enough. He's a genuine treasure to the history of music.

This is awesome. You must have a lot of great stories. I'm one of those that said he's often disappointing live, but never thought he was an a-hole. I've seen him great, and I've seen him seemingly go through the motions. Always enjoyed it though.
Few can rival his songwriting, his catalog, and his unique sound.

It was incredible. I got to meet and hang with many bands, and it was probably the most fun 3 years of my life. I was only part of two conference calls like this: Van Morrison and David Bowie for his Afraid of Americans release. Bowie was an absolute blast! He was in South America at the time, and he sat on the phone talking to us for about an hour. Van was nice but not very engaging. He talked about the record and thanked us for our work. That was about it lol.
