He didn't like the original recording of Astral Weeks, so in 2008-09, he put togther a full band, with strings, and did a limited live run of the entire album, scored as he always wanted it. Here's a video of it at the Hollywood Bowl, which also became a live album:

Little more difficult to find, but also listen to Veedon Fleece, in the same vein as Astral Weeks. Finally, his most recent album, Three Chords and the Truth is fantastic.

Great song.
The Montreux 1980 concert is hilarious. He is coked up or something.
"Tupelo Honey" live.

A couple of of the more modern songs here. I'll exit the thread in the hopes that Kafka can find some gems from when Van was living in northern California.
"That's Entrainment."
"Burning Ground."

?

You mean the early '70s? That's part of his golden age. I don't consider that stuff obscure.

Here's one of my favorite lesser-known Van tracks, the original version of "Friday's Child" by Them.

Another Them classic I don't think has been posted yet,

"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue"

This may actually be better-known than "Gloria" now

Yeah, I just had a feeling there are some lesser known studio or small venue tracks from that time period that haven't received a lot of exposure.

How could we forget one of the GOATs. THIS is the coked out Van I was thinking of:
"Caravan" with the Band the Last Waltz.

With two new knees and cortisone injections...? Who knows what the evening holds? Makes my heart go boom, boom, boom.

BTW Jackie Wilson Said is a great one. Here's Wild Night for the road.
