I still refer to him as 'Boner' like Bevis & Butthead called him. First off, I don't care for their boring music and worse is hearing some idiot try to preach his activist bullshite on stage. They really are more of a 'media' band- popular by the press and they try to make you think they are relevant, whereas I don't know any serious music fans or musicians that like them.

I’m not a fan and they seem extremely full of themselves. OP why do you think they are though?

They’re Irish. What else needs to be said?

Does this imagined "importance" make a band sound good?

I know I've personally never come out of a concert raving "Man, that band sounded IMPORTANT!"

Let's see, there is "Roxanne" and "Desire" and that's about it for me. Have never been impressed with anything else they have done.

Their first 4 albums were greatness, Joshua Tree was ok then they stopped making interesting music. So it's really been over 30 years since they were worth a crap.

Economic importance was waxing, artistic importance was waning.

The Strokes is the correct answer. They brought back real rock and roll music after the abortion that was grunge.

Sirius XM is giving them their own channel next year. I like the older stuff, lost interest when the sound became over-processed, compressed, and muddled. It’s just noise. The last album had a cleaner sound, but the music didn’t interest me.

But seeing them live in concert is something I will always try to do if I can get tickets.

I mean, you're right if you're in a praise and worship band at a megachurch.

I could give -2 shits what other people think of U2, they have some damn good music (primarily their 80's stuff) and absolutely kick(ed) arse in concert. I don't care for their SJW shite, especially at a concert, but that doesn't affect what I think of their music. If you ever saw them live back in their heyday and walked away disappointed, then idk

Sort of the same situation with Pearl Jam, I can't stand when Eddie goes on one of his political rants, but I'm above it when they just play the damn music.
