People have different definitions of "rockstar" but most musicians listed in this thread would be unknowns had it not been for one James Paul McCartney and he's alive still kicking arse.

The GNR guys were the last of what I think of when I think "rock star", the whole sex, drugs, hotel room trashing, car crashing stereotype. Nobody is creaming their panties in the street for Jack White or Dave Grohl.
