Top 50- Paste Magazine
There is so much wrong with this that I don't even know where to start. Just turrible

Albums from Southern bands? Avett Brothers? Jason Isbell in Top 10? Rock? What is happening?

Exactly. It's like they said if you were born in the South, then the music you make must be Southern Rock.
Like I said, there are so many things that make zero sense that I don't know where to start.

Gentle Spirit by Jonathan Wilson is better than half the albums listed if we're just going with the Southern origins requirement.

I usually hate the picks on these, but gotta say they at least chose correctly with the selections from REM, Drivin N Cryin, The Bottle Rockets, DBTs and Isbell.

I actually think most of the list is OK. But if REM are Southern Rock then so are the B-52's. Not so sure I consider ZZ Top and SRV Southern Rock either.

it's a pretty damn decent list. no one will ever agree in total, but it ain't bad

Top 5 is hard to argue
It's very easy to argue. Neither Murmur or Live at Folsom are southern rock records.
And to have them both above the likes of Marshall Tucker, Gregg Allman and Lynyrd Skynyrd is laughable
They're telling me that Murmur,Southern Rock Opera and At Folsom are better southern rock albums than Eat a Peach and Marshall Tucker self titled. Do these hacks even southern rock?

It can be a good list of albums from rock bands from the south and a shite list of Southern Rock albums.

I wouldn't call REM or Johnny Cash southern rock. Confederate Railroad? I thought that was like cheesy 90's pop country. So if you go that far reaching route, why not include southern metal in the list like Corrosion of Conformity?
BTW, did I miss Gov. Mule and WP on the list?
I think all would agree that Drivin'n Cryin' Mystery Road should be top 5.

Didn't miss anything, they're inexplicably not on the list. Just like Charlie Daniels Band- Fire on the Mountain album not being on the list. It's possibly the most "southern rock" album of all time.
Also, only one Marshall Tucker Band album? Wtf

Widespread isn't on there because they suck
Posted on 3/8/18 at 6:21 pm to BigOrangeBri
No Jason and the Scorchers? frick that.

Knew this list was gonna suck as soon as the whiney arse liberal writer started crying about the confederate flag. CDB??? No Hank Jr and Friends?? Bull chit

Widespread Panic's Everyday is a god damn treasure, and was released on this day 25 years ago.
That said, I wouldn't really classify it as "southern rock" either.
