Damn this is a fantastic album.

Descending and 7empest are my two favorite tracks so far.
The overall musicality on this album is on par with Lateralus.

As a whole this is my favorite Tool album. Worthy of being their swang song.

Somebody said in this thread earlier that descending might be the most complete TOOL song ever written, and I agree.
Theres a part that crescendos about 4 or 5 minutes in that might be the best music I've ever heard.

It's interesting bc maynard bows out of that song about half way through. I've heard a lot of bitching bc of that, the second part being all instrumental. But I think that's what makes it great.

I really hope nobody misconstrues what I say about Culling Voices as hate. I like all of the songs a bunch. I just still think it's the weakest relative to the album.

You don't like tool? Their music sounds that way. That's like most of the reason I like them honestly.
No, my point was instead of (5) 2 minute riff tool songs forced into a 12 minute track, they could have extended one or two riffs into it's own 5-6 minute track.
Calm down, not sure that's really a complaint more than a request. By the third listen, it seems to me at least this one picks up where Lateralus left off.

I agree with you. It isn't my favorite right now but I did find it interesting reading Reddit and seeing a lot of people say it was their favorite song immediately.

That was me. It is quickly moving to unseat Right in Two from the "favorite Tool track" throne for me.
To me it brings everything we love about tool. Dainty, utterly beautiful, complicated, thought provoking, RAW POWER, intensity and a crescendo to bring you up and let you down lightly. Everything I love about tool.

Beauty of Tool. We are all different but with them we have just amazing music to pick from. For me:
10,000 Days
Lateralus
Fear Inoculum (will probably usurp Lateralus soon)
Aenima
Undertow
Opiate
Songs:
Right in Two (my fave)
Rosetta Stoned
Third Eye
Descending
The Patient
Pushit
Stinkfist
Intolerance
Fear Inoculum

Same.
My favorite songs are the 2 parters.
Lost keys/Rosetta stoned
Parabol-parabola
Wings 1&2
After those, it's all jumbled up.

I see your point. I disagree, but I see where you are coming from, and can respect that. I personally love the long songs with multiple movements. I try not to begrudge anyone their art, especially when we are dealing with the rock n roll equivalent of Picasso or Buddy Rich.
Tool is more like listening to a symphony than a rock band for me, but I can see where one can have a gripe for sure.

I was not excited at all, was merely positing that if you don't like the way they have made albums for the last 20 years (Lateralus, 10k Days were like this too), maybe you just don't like Tool? Which is fine. Not everyone does.
Posted on 8/30/19 at 3:16 pm to TH03
You can look at Culling Voices as a 2 parter.

I'm just loving this album with every new listen.
I'm going Lateralus 1A/ Fear Inoculum 1B now....
Lateralus has the Vocals and Grit I love
Fear Inoclum has the heavy musical genius that I love.

+1 - Best song on the album for me.
Can't wait to get home, get a little high after everyone else in the house is asleep, and go all the fricking way in. 13 years, I am not missing one soundwave.
